'American Idol' 2011: Ranking the Top 12

Who Will Go Home This Week on 'American Idol?' Probably a Girl

Victoria Leigh Miller
The theme was "Songs From The Year they Were Born" Wednesday night on "American Idol" as the Top 12 contestants made us feel really old. But some performances were better than others. Here's a look at the Top 12- and who may be sent packing tonight.

Karen Rodriguez
Song: "Love Will Lead You Back"- Taylor Dane, 1989
She was in the hot seat last week but was spared when Ashton Jones was sent home instead. After this unmemorable performance, this week she may not be so lucky.

Naima Adedapo
Song: "What's Love Got To Do With It"- Tina Turner, 1984
Pitchy, pitchy pitchy. Even Jennifer Lopez- who admittedly gave her a "pass" last week for her obvious pitch problems-agreed.

Thia Megia
Song: "Colors of the Wind"- Vanessa Williams, 1995
Thia may need to speed things up. If Randy Jackson is getting bored by her weekly ballads, America probably is too.

Haley Reinhart
Song:"I'm Your Baby Tonight"- Whitney Houston, 1990
Another talented singer who just doesn't know what her niche is. The judges are confused by her going from Alicia Keys to country to Whitney. Pick a genre and stick with it.

Paul McDonald
Song: "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues"- Elton John, 1984
The Vote for the Worst pick is still playing the quirky card. This is one you'll either love or hate.

Casey Abrams
Song: "Smells Like Teen Spirit"- Nirvana, 1991
Abrams brought out his electric bass and went all Cobain crazy on us. He may have scared small children and grandmas with this screamfest, but it was a risk he was willing to take.

Jacob Lusk
Song:"Alone"- Heart, 1987
An interesting song choice, with Lusk trying to change things up with a rock song. But what an overdone song.

Lauren Alaina
Song:"I'm The Only One"- Melisa Etheridge, 1994
The flu didn't keep Lauren Alaina down as she tackled this song. Randy Jackson even suggested she should have a cold every week.

James Durbin
Song:" I'll Be There For You"- Bon Jovi, 1989
He rocked Bon Jovi- a smart move after teetering between Judas Priest and Paul McCartney tunes in recent weeks. Someone is giving this kid some good advice on song picks.

Stefano Langone
Song: "If You Don't Know Me By Now"- Simply Red, 1989
Here's another contestant who knows exactly where he wants to be. There's no doubt he will be safe this week.

Scotty McCreery
Song: "Can I Trust You With My Heart"-Travis Tritt, 1993
He stayed in his "country lane" once again and that is what will likely work for him all season. The judges- and fans- are loving this kid.

Pia Toscano
Song: "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"- Whitney Houston, 1988
Randy said it best: "Pia is in it to win it!" Vegas odds makers seem to agree.

In danger tonight:

Because so many of the girls offered snooze-worthy performances, let's go with Karen, Naima and Thia. Switch any of them out for Haley and that could be the bottom 3. Casey could be in real danger after his screamy Nirvana-fest, but he's popular and I think fans still like his risk taking. As for Paul McDonald, his quirkiness will put him at risk every week.

You can catch the results episode of "American Idol" tonight at 8:00 pm ET on FOX.

Agree with the 4 girls you put at risk plus Paul, though don't think it's fair to Thia. Props to Scotty for basically doing the same stuff all the time - what he does best - but she gets panned for doing what she does best?
