'American Idol' 2011 Season 10: What Happens in Vegas...

The First 5 Top 24 Names Revealed on 'American Idol'

It's been a long and winding road for the contestants on FOX's "American Idol." And Wednesday night that road took the remaining contestants off to Las Vegas- in a show that took on a tricky theme. Because let's face it, not everybody can sing The Beatles.

Judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler got ready to make deep cuts- trimming the fat from 61 contestants down to the Top 24.

But first, the contestants worked with vocal coaches (including "The Vocal Coach from hell") and famed music producer Jimmy Iovine.

So who moved on to the Top 24 on "American Idol" Season 10?

The Beatles performances were a mixed bag. Contestants had to pair up or work in threesomes- and while some kids sizzled, others fizzled.

On the sizzling side: Stefano Langone and James Durbin ("Get back") and Tim Halprin and Julie Zorilla ("Something").

Fizzled: Ashley Sullivan and Sophia Shorai ("We Can Work It Out").

Casey Abrams and Chris Medina pulled off a hard rocking version of "A Hard Day's Night" (Steven Tyler told them, "You're freaks!").

And Thia Megia and Melinda Ademi's "Here Comes the Sun" was called "cute" by J-Lo. Not sure if that was a good or a bad critique.

Next up, the 61 contestants were cut down to 40 before heading back to Los Angeles.

White house intern Molly DeWolf Swenson was sent packing, as were Denise Jackson and Ashley Sullivan (Sullivan went home with a little extra baggage- as in the hubby that she married in a Vegas chapel right before her audition.)

Back in L.A. it was time for the remaining 40 to face that long hallway and daunting white chair.

It was good news for Naima Adedapo, Clint Jun Gamboa, Haley Reinhart, Paul McDonald and Ashthon Jones. They are officially part of the Top 24.

Not so good was the news for Hollie Cavanaugh, Lakeisha Lewis, Alex Ryan and Deandre Brackensick.

But the tearjerker of the night was when Jennifer Lopez had to cut Chris Medina. J-Lo took it harder than he did and suffered a tearful meltdown when he left the room.

Turns out this job may be tougher than she thought.

The complete "American Idol" Top 24 will be revealed on Thursday, February 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
