Jimmy Iovine mentored the kids on some of Motown's greatest tunes. A few of them had never even heard their song before ("Hello"?) but they all came through.
Here's what each of the contestants sang for Motown week:
Casey Abrams- - "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye
Thia Megia-"Heatwave"-Martha and the Vandellas
Jacob Lusk- "You're All I Need to Get By"- Marvin Gaye
Lauren Alaina- "You Keep Me Hangin' On"- The Supremes
Stefano Langone- "Hello"- Lionel Richie
Haley Reinhart- "You Really Got a Hold on Me"- Smoky Robinson and the Miracles
Scotty McCreery- "For Once in My Life"- Stevie Wonder
Pia Toscano- "All in Love is Fair"- Stevie Wonder
Paul McDonald- "Tracks of My Tears"- Smoky Robinson and the Miracles
Naima Adedapo- "Dancing in the Streets"- Martha and the Vandellas
James Durbin- "Livin' for the City"- Stevie Wonder
Lots of repeats as far as artists go- and it was surprising that no one (Thia?) sang a Michael Jackson or Jackson 5 song.
Country boy Scotty McCreery seemed to be the most nervous this week- and why not? The Motown theme was soooo out of his genre, but he gave his Stevie Wonder song his own flair. It was a brilliant move and was sure not to put off any of his country music fans.
Pia Toscano's voice is beautiful- but Randy is getting really tired of all the ballads. Could her boring ballad blitz put her in jeopardy?
Paul McDonald was just not going to do Motown. He turned a Smoky Robinson classic into an indie folk rock tune- and it actually worked.
And Naima put her pitchiness aside for a week and gave us an African dance as part of her performance. Who says she isn't multi-talented?
Tonight's the night when we find out who didn't make the cut- and who will miss out on the "American Idol" tour this summer. The Top 10 is revealed tonight!
You can catch the "American Idol" Top 11 results show on March 24 at 8:00 pm on FOX.
