American Idol 2011 Top 7 Performances

American Idol 2011 Top 7 Judges' Critiques

Olga L. Chacon
Tonight on American Idol, the Top 7 contestants performed songs from the 21st century. James Durbin and Casey Adams's performances were outstanding as usual. Here are the Top 7 performances and critiques from the judges, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Scotty McCreery's Performance

The 1st contestant of the Top 7 was Scotty McCreery, who performed, "Swingin" by Leann Rimes. I enjoyed Scotty McCreery's performance as always. Scotty is a charismatic guy and fun to watch. He has that sexy tone that drives the girls crazy. And I don't know why, but he reminds me of Woody from Toy Story. Not in a bad way. He just does.

Anyway, here are the comments from the judges on American Idol: Steven Tyler said, "Scotty, I love you. I love your voice. I love Leann Rimes." Jennifer Lopez said, "I love your story-telling quality you have to singing...but we were expecting more from Scotty..." Randy Jackson said, "To me that was so safe...there could've been a better song for you to sing."

Tonight, the judges were tough on Scotty McCreery. I kind of understand the judges. This is a competition and every contestant has to bring it hard every week on American Idol, especially since we're getting closer and closer to the finale. Well, Scotty McCreery is still one of my favorites from the Top 7.

James Durbin's Performance

The 2nd contestant of the Top 7 was James Durbin. James's performance was over the top amazing. James Durbin performed, "Uprising" by Muse. After his performance, Jennifer Lopez said, "I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that is going to be theatrically, the best performance of the night....that was really amazing..."

Randy Jackson said to James Durbin, "Dude you were unbelievable up there, the whole thing with the drums...this is probably going to be the best performance of the night." Steven Tyler said, "The was crazy good man. You took it up again." It was crazzzzy. And guess what? James Durbin's performance was the best of the night!

Haley Reinhart's Performance

Haley Reinhart performed, "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele. I thought Haley Reinhart's performance was a good one. Randy Jackson said, "I think you chose a perfect direction for you...I thought it was a great performance, man. Well done." Steven Tyler said to Haley Reinhart, "...I thought it was beautiful." Jennifer Lopez said, "You brought a little bit of Haley to it in certain moments, and that's where I thought you really shined." Yay, Haley!

Jacob Lusk's Performance

After Jacob Lusk performed, "Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross, Steven Tyler said, "You are so good. This man is so good...it was a beautiful thing." Jennifer Lopez said to Jacob Lusk, "Emotionally, it was a beautiful performance." Randy Jackson said, "...emotionally was a great performance...I need the return of old Jacob...go off the top..." Randy was a little hard on Jacob Lusk. He wants Jacob to push harder. For me, Jacob Lusk's performance was good, but not great.

Casey Abrams's Performance

Casey Abrams was the 5th contestant of the Top 7 on American Idol. Casey Abrams performed, "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5. Casey Abrams's performance was different and amazing as always. Casey took a pop rock song and made it all rock. I really like Casey. He always brings something different to the stage.

Casey Abrams is full of surprises, especially, his new stunt at the end of the song. Casey Abrams kissed the world's most beautiful woman. That's right, Jennifer Lopez. Steven Tyler said, "You did what I've been trying to do for 4 months." That was hilarious.

Anyway, Jennifer Lopez said that she loved Casey Abrams's performance. She said it was a great performance. Randy Jackson said, "I enjoyed it...you're a jazz, indie, kind of rock guy. You fit all of those genres. I love the fact that you came here and kissed her....keep taking chances. I love it." Steven Tyler was cursing throughout the entire time that all I got from him was that Casey is already a hero because people are angry, and he made them angry. People are changing because of Casey Abrams.

Stefano Langone's Performance

Stefano Langone sang, "Closer" by Ne-Yo. I thought it was a good performance, but not great. Randy Jackson said, "You did a very good job. You smoothed it out...You took your time..." Steven Tyler said, "Good job." Jennifer Lopez said to Stefano Langone, "I really really liked it. I though it was a really really good job..." Stefano Langone needs to work harder next week, so that he can really bring it to the stage. That's if he makes it through on American Idol this week. Jacob Lusk could also be at the bottom 3. But I rather have Jacob Lusk sent home than Stefano Langone.

Lauren Alaina's Performance

Lauren Alaina was the last contestant to perform of the Top 7 on American Idol. Lauren Alaina sang, "Born to Fly" by Sara Evans. I liked Lauren's performance. I liked her song choice. I think Lauren Alaina is such a natural performer. Steven Tyler said, "You're so good naturally." Jennifer Lopez said that Lauren Alaina can sing big notes, and should try it next time. Randy Jackson said, "I don't think she knows how good she really is...You can do anything....Challenge yourself Lauren." Yeah Lauren, you can do it!

That's All Folks
