'American Idol' 2011's Top Twelve Guys: Shining Stars Emerge
5 Contestants Will Be Voted into Finalist Group
"American Idol," season ten, is brimming with talent. Even though nerves were on edge, wrong song choices were made, and some singers faced a big stage for the first time ever, the results were still entertaining. Viewers finally got to take a good look at the top twelve male contestants. Idol judges-Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson-were obviously proud of their picks. A few of the singers stood out as something special.
Casey Abrams - I Put a Spell on You, Screamin' Jay Hawkins
Casey definitely puts a spell on listeners. Even though he is an accomplished musician, the only instrument he used tonight was his engaging blues' voice. When he sings, I picture him in a speakeasy in New Orleans in the Roaring Twenties. The last note he sang tonight clinched it.
Jacob Lusk - A House Is Not a Home, Luther Vandross
J-Lo said that Luther Vandross is her favorite all-time singer, and he would've been very proud of Jacob tonight. His upper range is extraordinary, and he puts his entire body and soul into his performances.
James Durbin - You've Got Another Thing Comin', Judas Priest
James was strong and confident on that stage tonight as he rocked the house and brought the audience to their feet. Steven Tyler said, "That was bleeping crazy good," and he was right.
Paul McDonald - Maggie May, Rod Stewart
There's something about this guy that is mesmerizing. Sure, he consistently flashes that smile, but it's more than that. He truly has a unique quality in his vocal tone. I hope he sticks around, so we can figure out just what it is that draws us in.
Clint Jun Gamboa - Superstition, Stevie Wonder
Clint was the first vocalist to take the stage on "American Idol." I hope the viewers don't forget about him. He nailed it. His range and tone were impressive.
Scotty McCreery - Letters from Home, John Michael Montgomery
Scotty knows who he is, and that seems to be a down-home country singer. His baritone voice is soothing, and he definitely is reeling in "American Idol's" country fans.
Stefano Langone - Just the Way You Are, Bruno Mars
Stefano hit some nice high notes and seemed very natural on stage. I don't think he stacks up well enough against the other contestants, however, to secure a spot.
Robbie Rosen - In the Arms of an Angel, Sarah McLachlan
Robbie has an appealing, tranquil voice and a nice falsetto. At only 17-years old, he is very poised on stage. I was a little disappointed that he didn't belt out some licks to show off his voice more.
Tim Halperin - Streetcorner Symphony, Rob Thomas
Tim worked the stage well, and his performance was what I'd call "pleasant." He is very talented, but viewers who hadn't previously seen him perform may not have recognized that fact tonight.
Jovany Barreto - I'll Be, Edwin McCain
The judges were split on this one, but I'd have to side with Randy. I don't think there was anything memorable in Jovany's performance.
Brett Loewenstern - Light My Fire, The Doors
Brett's nerves came through loud and clear tonight. He looked uncomfortable on stage and, as a result, flipped his hair to the point of distraction. Once he got going, we did hear the voice that got him to this point in the first place.
Jordan Dorsey - OMG, Usher
Jordan's a guy you want to root for; unfortunately, he blew it on "American Idol" tonight. He stepped out of his comfort zone, and it didn't fare well for him.
