American Idol Aaron Kelly Handles Himself with Dignity as He's Voted Off

Hats Off to His Mother

Though not a fan of American Idol, I am an avid fan of Frank Sinatra. When I heard that American Idol's top 5 contenders were going to be singing the tunes of this great singer, I just had to watch the show.

As the first singer to perform on American Idol Tuesday night; his rendition of "Fly Me To The Moon" was really good. Though none of American Idol's four judges had anything negative to say about his performance, I guess it wasn't good enough, because he was voted off the show on Wednesday night.

I was truly impressed with Aaron's demeanor as he was given the news that he was the one that was chosen. With a smile that greatly belied his youth, he hugged fellow contender Michael Lynche as Mike gave him words of encouragement, and then graciously stepped towards Ryan Seacrest.

"How old do you feel now?" Ryan asked him. "Um, still 17," he replied.

He handled himself with such poise and dignity, that I couldn't help but be impressed. His mother most definitely raised him right when he could handle such disappointment in such a manner.

No mother likes to see heartbreak and disappointment come to their children, so you can't blame his mom for having tears. Aaron's mother tearfully stated, "God didn't give you that gift just to sing in the shower." I have to agree with her. Aaron Kelly most definitely has a gift, and it's a gift that hopefully he can nurture at a later date.

After hearing the disappointing news of him being voted off, Aaron took the microphone and again sang Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon." He sang the melody with such style and finesse, that I think that Frank himself would have been impressed. I know I was.

To Aaron's mother I say, "I applaud you and your son. His behavior was impeccable. You can be proud of your son."

It was truly impressive to watch as Michael Lynche gives Aaron Kelly a hug, and words of encouragement upon hearing he is the one voted to leave American Idol.
