American Idol Rocks the House

Misti Sandefur
The inspiration this week, on American Idol, was Queen. Queen proved to be a little tough, vocally, for many of the Idol contestants. Queen's songs have many chord changes, and many of their songs are also hard to perform. Even though many of the contestants had a few problems, they did manage to pull it off.

Bucky opened tonight's show with "Fat Bottomed Girls." Randy said, "nice way to start the show. You showed a lot of energy." Paul said, "you stayed true to who you are, and you made 'Fat Bottomed Girls' a country-rock song.

Next up, after Bucky, was Ace. Ace performed "We Will Rock You." Randy said, to me it was about a five or six. I thought it was more karaoke." Paula thought it was "a little pitchy," and Simon said it was a "complete and utter mess." Me, I have to agree with all three of the judges - Ace really didn't do a great job with the song.

Kellie sang "Bohemian Rhapsody." Now, I don't know the song real well, but vocally, I think she did a great job. Randy told Kellie, "When I first heard you were gonna do that song, I was worried. But I think you worked it out. I was entertained." And Paula, she said, "you showed the rocker chick that you were." Kellie said she didn't understand Simon's accent, and he said, "likewise." But aside from his accent, who does understand half of what Simon says anyway? Do you?

Chris attempted a song ("Innuendo") that the band said they've never performed live, and he done a pretty good job with the song. Simon told Chris, "I just think it's a shame that you didn't decide to entertain the audience at home with one of the great Queen songs, because you could have had a moment tonight. Once again, the song was indulgent." And Randy said, "I expected big things from you tonight, and you delivered!"

Katharine, at the last minute, chose to change from "Don't Stop Me Now" to "Who Wants to Live Forever." Randy told Katharine she was a little "pitchy" in spots, but all in all, she did a good job. Paula also thought she did a "great" job and Simon said, "almost the moment, but overall, probably one of the strongest tonight.

Before Elliott took the stage, Seacrest asked him about his past jobs, and Elliott responded by saying, "I couldn't keep a job." He said he's had many jobs, and he also said he use to be a DJ.

After revealing some of his past, Elliott sang "Somebody to Love." Randy said, "I loved you man. I thought it was really, really good." Paula said, "you gave the best Elliott Yamin performance." And Simon said, "you pulled it off."

Taylor was missing dancing, and wanted to get back to his old self. So, in order to get back to his old self again he, like Katharine, also changed his song choice from "We are the Champions" to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Yes, Taylor brought back his old self with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." And, in my personal opinion, his performance was a "hot one!" I missed the old Taylor. Paula, on the other hand, she didn't know whether to give him a record deal or a straitjacket. Taylor is crazy at times, but that's what I love about him, and I also believe his craziness is what the rest of his fans love so much about him too.

Paris ended with, "The Show Must Go On." Randy said, "you started out a little rough, but you worked it out." Paula said, "you are a powerhouse." And Simon, the only comment he had for Paris was, "I found it all a little weird." Simon's comment was short, but certainly not sweet, wouldn't you agree?

Find out who goes home tomorrow night. Also, tomorrow night's show will be one hour instead of 30 minutes. Hmm…I wonder what's in store. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
