American Idol April 21 Results Show Features Idol Gives Back 2010, Tim Urban's Departure

Fundraising was the name of the game on the April 21 American Idol results show, which featured not only the elimination of yet another Idol hopeful, but also the popular Idol Gives Back. Big names of the night included Mary J. Blige, the week's AI mentor Alicia Keys, Bill and Melinda Gates, Joss Stone, Jeff Beck, Morgan Freeman, Carrie Underwood and others. After the fundraising efforts concluded, teen heartthrob Tim Urban was booted from the season 9 competition, cementing the identities of the four guys and two gals in the 2010 American Idol top 6. Here's how it all played out, including brief performance reviews and all the elimination action.

The latest American Idol results show opened with a video clip from Barack and Michelle Obama, praising the reality show's efforts to help ease world hunger via Idol Gives Back and Save the Children. Host Ryan Seacrest then took over, calling on co-host Queen Latifah to call the action on her end in Pasadena. Up next, the American Idol season 9 top 12 reunited for the usual group number. The bunch, each clad in different styles of white apparel - from Crystal Bowersox' flowing, ethereal number to Siobhan Magnus' hole-riddled shirt and miniskirt, sang a heartfelt rendition of Keeping the Dream Alive.

Up next came a stream of celebrity endorsements of Save the Children and Idol Gives Back 2010, including Jennifer Garner, Victoria Beckham and Russell Brand. After Ryan chatted briefly with the seven remaining hopefuls, AI went to Queen Latifah, who introduced the first Idol Gives Back act of the night: The Black Eyed Peas, singing Rock Your Body. I really, really did not love this performance. I had no need to see Fergie strutting around in a snakeskin-lookalike swimsuit and the most awkward looking pair of boots I've ever seen. I mean, good for her for showing millions of people that you don't need to be a size 2, but no.

After a break, the April 21 American Idol results show resumed with actor George Lopez taking over the mic to begin Idol elimination action. Rather than addressing the contestants, however, he turned an eye to the judges' table. He called out Randy Jackson on saying "dog" all the before proclaiming him safe, and then turned to Kara DioGuardi and said she too was safe, after noting that she'd been great on his show. Ellen Degeneres aka the "Kourtney Kardashian of the judges" was next to be proclaimed safe, leaving just Simon Cowell to face his roast. George first ordered Simon to return to England, but then proclaimed him safe, citing the volcanic ash from the volcame in Iceland that I'm not even going to try to spell. (Yeah, it was just as weird as it sounds.)

The American Idol results show continued with a look at the week's Ford music video. Yay sponsorship. And then: Results. Simon first summoned Crystal Bowersox, who last night earned a standing ovation from Randy with People Get Ready, and Casey James, who suffered last night, to the stage. Casey was relegated to the bottom three, while Crystal was proclaimed safe to perform again as part of the American Idol season 9 top 6. Aaron Kelly and Lee DeWyze faced the music next, with Lee continuing on next week and Aaron in the bottom three.

With two AI contestants seated on the Stools of Peril, Ryan threw the action back to Queen Latifah, who introduced Joss Stone and Jeff Beck. The English guitarist and the gravelly-voiced songstress joined forced to deliver I Put a Spell On You, and a mighty performance it was all-around. Next up was Alicia Keys, who stood alone on the American Idol stage as she performed Unthinkable. The best part of Alicia's time on stage, though, came about when she sat at the piano and sang Empire State of Mind. She looked so comfortable and happy tickling the ivories.

The next Idol Gives Back performer had a winning Idol history of her own. Singing Change was former Idol champ and current Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood. The popular blonde sang with her customary passion and power. (And for anyone interested in the actual American Idol results, yes, Aaron Kelly and Casey James were still sitting on those probably very uncomfortable stools awaiting their respective fates.)

After a comedic bid by Wanda Sykes, American Idol results action resumed as Ryan called Siobhan Magnus, Michael Lynche and Tim Urban to the stage. Quirky Siobhan was the first deemed safe, followed by Big Mike, leaving the ever-smiling teen idol prototype Tim in the bottom three.

Idol Gives Back 2010 returned pronto as AI season seven winner David Cook joined Ryan on stage to talk about a trip he'd taken to Ethiopia as a representative of the UN Foundation to visit an all-girls' school. Up next was Annie Lennox, who donned a shirt reading 'HIV Positive' in support of awareness of the devastating virus. The singer performed remotely from London.

The American Idol results show slash Idol Gives Back 2010 returned from another commercial break with Stairway to Heaven, performed by Mary J. Blige, Randy Jackson, Orianthi and an all-star group. It was a pretty happenin' show, woohoo. Sir Elton John closed out the fundraising portion of the show with his iconic hit Your Song, and then... drumroll... the final results.

Aaron Kelly was sent back to the couch, leaving, Casey James and Tim Urban in peril. A moment, later Tim was eliminated from the competition. The shaggy-haired Tim maintained continued grinning even after he was booted. He'll have a musical career, I'm sure.

Here's a look at the season 9 American Idol top 6:

Crystal Bowersox
Lee DeWyze
Casey James
Siobhan Magnus
Michael Lynche
Aaron Kelly

So who will fail to make the top 5? I'm guessing Aaron Kelly or Casey James, based on the results thus far. Crystal and Lee, barring meltdowns of massive proportions, should be shoo-ins for the top 3. Michael could find himself in trouble, but it seems doubtful, given that he didn't even wind up in Wednesday's bottom three. And Siobhan? That girl is just much too funky and unique to go just yet. Watch to see what happens next week on American Idol as country singer Shania Twain mentors the AI top 6.
