American Idol April 27: Top 6 Perform; Shania Twain Mentors; Siobhan Magnus Brings Down House

American Idol 2010 Season 9. Tuesday, April 27, 2010. The judges are Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell. The host is Ryan Seacrest. This week's mentor is pop-country queen Shania Twain. Shania wants the Top 6 singers to perform her songs, which writes with just a guitar around, as if they had written the songs. Each contestant will have two voting numbers. Here are the contestants' performances in order of occurrence-

American Idol's reliable Lee DeWyze played the acoustic guitar and sang 'You're Still the One'. He has a huge fan base who love listening to him but I'm just not a fan. Yet the Idol judges are all fans. Randy said this is one of his favorite songs of all time. He said that mid-way through, Lee found a way to make it his own. Ellen said it always sounds like your version. She told him he couldn't look cuter. And added, "All aboard the Shania Twain." Kara liked the way he cracked a smile a couple of times and said he'd done a good job. Simon agreed with the other judges. But he thought Lee pulled faces as he sang.

Shania loves the song that Michael chose. She said the ones who make it in the end in the music business are 'the ones who really feel it'. American Idol's big man Michael Lynche sang, 'It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing'. He had a nice tender high note at the end. Randy told Michael that he's really in the zone of who he is. Ellen felt his emotion and thought it was beautiful. Kara said she always feels Michael is connected to the songs he sings. She felt he put his mark on it. There was a Luther Van Dross comparison. But Simon thought the performance was a bit 'wet'. Randy questioned Simon. Yes, wet. Shania was very emotional and said to Michael, "You really got me."

Shania told Casey's he's a handsome guy but his success will be in how he tells a story. American Idol's blond hunk Casey James played the acoustic guitar and sang 'Don't'. He did tell the story- he did do something different from the last few weeks. Randy said this one of the best Casey James performances ever. Ellen said it was beautiful and thought it was his best performance to date. Kara said he was vulnerable and raw. She said if he keeps doing this, he will be in the front of the competition. Simon agreed with Randy about this performance being Casey's best yet. He suggested that Casey 'come down here and give Shania a hug', which he did. Very nice. Shania looks gorgeous tonight with her long hair in down and in deep waves. She wore a slim deep-blue sparkling gown.

Shania said that Crystal Mommasox needs to remember what this song means in her life right now. American Idol's amazing Crystal Bowersox sang 'No One Needs to Know'. Randy loved it and loves her but the performance wasn't one of his favorites of Crystal's. Ellen agreed with Randy but compared it to 'trying to choose your least favorite color of the rainbow'. Kara agreed with them. Simon thought the performance was limp and said we don't like Crystal this week- as if she was a band in a coffee shop that no one wants to listen to.

Shania said we already love Aaron. Her message to him was "Show us what you love." American Idol's teen Aaron Kelly sang 'Just the Way You Are'. He really outdid himself. Randy said, "You are our country artist on the show this year." Ellen loved the emotion and depth he showed. She said he embraced the lyrics. Kara said he was believable. Simon told him that he just hadn't gotten it for the last couple of weeks but then he said, "You were like a different artist-- this is the kind of record you should make... I think you did really well tonight... well done!" It was a very real performance. Aaron was singing it for his mother.

So far, we've had five out five great performances. Shania Twain's music must bring out the best in singers.

Shania said that Siobahn really needs to let her character to come out through this song. American Idol's unpredictable beauty and artiste Siobhan Magnus sang 'Any Man of Mine'. Randy loved it! Ellen said, "Good way to end the show. Fantastic!" Kara excitedly said, "Guess who's back... Siobhan!" Simon said the song was perfect... 'but the screaming at the end was a little much... almost like giving birth but it was fun'! Clad in a short pleated floral spaghetti-strapped dress and shod in white cowboy boots, Siobhan had, as Randy noted, a country-punk thing going on!

The votes will soon be in for the night. Wednesday, tomorrow, night will yield the elimination results. Out of four guys and two girls, the singers in the most trouble after tonight's performances are- no one!

American Idol News: Glam man Adam Lambert will headline "The Glam Nation Tour". Adam, who was a runner-up in Season 8 when Kris Allen won will do his first headlining tour- 'an audio and visual spectacular, both theatrical and atmospheric', according to American Idol. The tour begins on June 4 in Wilkes Barre, PA. "I hope the audience will be able to escape for a few hours and fall into a world full of glam, drama and excitement," Lambert says. "And I would love everyone to come away with a new appreciation for the music on my album"-- which is For Your Entertainment.
