American Idol, April 28 - Standards from the Rat Pack Era

Tonight's theme was "Standards From the Rat Pack Era" and with the finale just three weeks away, each contestant was given two numbers to make voting easier. Jamie Foxx, this week's mystery mentor, gave some great advice to the five contestants. Kris Alen kicked off the show with The Way You Look Tonight. Randy said, "This was your best performance to date. You told a story. You have mad vocals." Kara said he set the technical standard for the night and feels he may be the dark horse in the competition. Paula thought he's gone from the boy next door to the sophisticated gentleman and thought his performance was impeccable. Simon said, "I thought it was good, but it was like taking a well trained spaniel for walk. Good." Allison, who just celebrated her 17th birthday, sang Someone To Watch Over Me. Randy said, "You sing like Pink, but with 9,00 more octaves. That was the bomb." Kara said she converted some new fans tonight and this performance will land her in the finals. Paula thought it was a tender, alluring and innocent performance. Simon said, "I don't feel that you believe you can win. It was a great performance, but I have a horrible feeling you could be in trouble."

Matt Giraud, who has been waiting for this genre all season, sang My Funny Valentine. Randy thought it was a little bit pitchy and didn't think his performance came together. Kara thought there were too many runs and didn't feel an emotional connection. Paula loved what he did with the song and thought he did an excellent job singing in the lower key. Simon said, "I disagree with Randy. It was the only believable authentic performance so far. Absolutely brilliant." Danny Gokey sang, Come Rain Or Come Shine. Randy said, "You are the only one so far that could make an album of songs like that. Kara liked his Rat Pack swagger and the creative melody. Paula thought it was stellar and thinks he has the finish line in sight. Simon said, "You showed swagger and confidence. You came out to prove a point. Outstanding." Adam Lambert closed out the show in a big way with Feeling Good. Adam made a grand entrance down the Idol stairs that Ryan Seacrest uses every week and delivered an amazing performance. Randy thought it was a little too Broadway and theatrical. Kara thought it was shocking in a good way. Paula said that words couldn't describe Adam's performance. And, Simon said, "It shows how much you want to win. It was very entertaining and the best entrance so far this year."

Tune in tomorrow night at 9:00 PM EST on FOX for the live results show to see who will be going home and who will make in to the final four.
