American Idol, April 29 - Matt Giraud is Eliminated

Adam Lambert Lands in the Bottom Two

A record 47,000,000 American Idol fans voted last night after the contestants performed songs from the Rat Pack Era. Tonight's show was a one hour marathon that included three guest performers. Natalie Cole sang Something Has Got To Give. Former Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, performed Seven Mile Breakdown from his new album. And, Jamie Foxx, last night's guest mentor, sang his new hit Blame It.

The five remaining contestants kicked off the show with a group performance of I Don't Mean A Thing and I Got Rhythm. Ryan asked all five to line up in the center of the stage. He asked Matt Giraud to stand on the right side of the stage and asked Danny Gokey to stand on the left side of the stage. Next, he asked Allison Ireheta to join Danny on the left side and told Kris Allen to join Matt on the right side. True to idol tradition, he asked Adam to decide which group he wanted to join. Adam chose to stand with Danny Allison. Ryan asked Adam to move to the other side of the stage with Matt and Kris and told Danny and Allison they were safe. This left Matt, Kris and Adam in the bottom three.

After performances by Natalie Cole and Taylor Hicks, Ryan announced that Kris was safe leaving Matt and Adam in the bottom too. And, after Jamie Foxx's performance, Ryan announced that Matt was going home. The biggest shocker of the night seemed to be front runner, Adam Lambert, landing in the bottom two. It seems that Randy got it right last night when he told Allison that she can sing like Pink with 9,000 more octaves and thought her performance was the bomb. He also told Danny that his performance could be a hit record. Randy also called it with Adam and Matt. He thought Adam's performance was a little too theatrical and too Broadway and thought Matt's performance was pitchy and it didn't come together. Matt's fans will be able to see him on tour with other top 10 Idols this summer. Tune in next Tuesday at 8:00 PM EST on FOX when the contestants will be performing rock and roll songs. This should be Allison's week to shine.
