American Idol, April 7 - Anoop is Back!

This week the Top Eight contestants chose a song from the year they were born. Danny Gokey kicked of the show with 1980's Stand By Me. Randy liked his gospel, jazz, R&B vibe. Kara thought he killed it at the end and made the song his own. Paula said he set the bar high and the others will be running as fast as they can to catch up with him. Simon simply said, "The beginning was good. The middle was lazy and the end was terrific. Kris Allen performed All She Wants To Do Is Dance from 1985. After coming off of a great week last week, Kara liked the uptempo but said he looked like he was performing his jazz funk homework and he lost his youth. Paula called him the most likeable contestant they have ever had. Randy didn't like the fact that he changed the arrangement. Simon said, "It was indulgent, boring and forgettable. You look like a guitarist who wants to be a singer. It was stupid song choice."

Lil Rounds performed Tina Turner's What's Love Got To Do With It from 1984. And, for the third week in a row, she received some harsh comments from the judges. Paula thought she looked hot but still hasn't shown who she is as an artist and thought it sounded like karaoke. Simon said, "We are not looking for a second or third rate version of Tina Turner. We have lost you. You need to start becoming an original." Randy said, "You have mad talent, but you are not listening to us." Kara told Lil that she needs to make the leap from singer to artist. Anoop Desai sang True Colors from 1985. Randy called it hot and a very nice vocal. Kara liked his interpretation of the song. Paula called it flawless and fantastic and the best performance of the night so far. Simon called him a singing yo-yo and liked how he made the song his own. Scott MacIntyre took a risk tonight and left the comfort zone of his piano to sing 1985's The Search Is Over accompanying himself on electric guitar. Kara thought it was difficult song and some parts were good and some not so good. Paula was happy that he stepped away from the piano. Simon suggested that he go back to the piano and said the song was horrible and the guitar playing wasn't much better.

Allison Ireheta sang I Can't Make You Love Me from 1992. Paula said even with one note is undeniably Allison. Kara thought she took a song with dull content and made young. Simon said, "It was very good. We still need to sort you out and make you a bit more likeable and talkative." Randy said, "You remind me of that girl that won the first season. You can sing your face off." Matt Giraud sang Part Time Lovers from 1985. Randy thought it was vocally one of the best performances of the night and Kara thought it was incredible on every level. Paula said he stands alone and Simon thought it was well done. With the show running five minutes over, Adam Lambert sand Mad World from 1982. Simon said because they were running over he would be the only speaking and said words are unnecessary and gave Adam a standing ovation.

Tune in Wednesday night at 9:00 PM EST on FOX for the live results show and see which contest will be going home
