American Idol Auditions 1 & 2: What is Simon's Problem?

Misti Sandefur
Did you all catch the American Idol Audition shows? I know I did. I laughed and I applauded many who auditioned. And yes, like many, I even yelled at Simon even though he couldn't hear me. I can't wait to catch more of the show next Tuesday night!

The thing that amazes me is the amount of people who think they can really sing well. I mean come on, can't you hear yourself. I'll be the first to admit my talent is not singing. I would love to be blessed with a beautiful singing voice like Dolly Parton, but I wasn't. I wouldn't dare show up at American Idol's audition knowing I can't sing.

However, I do believe that some of those who show up there do know they can't sing, but I think it's something they won't let go of, and they believe that maybe Simon, Paula and Randy will let them through and fix their voices with technology. I don't think these people realize American Idol is not looking for contestants they can train, but contestants who have real talent. This is just my opinion, feel free to share yours.

Ahh, yes, Simon, let me touch on that one a bit. Simon is alright in a way. You have to give the man credit, at least he gives his honest opinion on their singing voices. But, and that's a big BUT, he can be pretty rude at times, don't you agree? What I don't understand is why Simon can't just tell them "hey you're bad" instead of commenting on their weight, telling them how to dress, and the many other things he spouts out at them.

Sometimes I just want to say to Simon, "Have a heart, these are real people with feelings. Don't you have any compassion at all?" Oh, but my favorite is when Simon tells them they are the worst singer in the world. I've lost count on that, but it seems to me that there is more than one "worst singer in the world" according to Simon.

If there is one thing I do know, I sure wouldn't want to be setting in that room giving the thumbs up or thumbs down. Can you imagine what Simon, Paula and Randy go through? Sitting in a room for hours listening to many bad singers, and good ones too. But what I'm trying to imagine is the bad ones.

We hear them sitting in our home, in front of the TV, and think "Oh my God, that's terrible!" What we're not hearing though is what Simon, Paula and Randy are hearing. To them the sound must echo in that room, and the noise and echo from some must pierce their ears. As a matter of fact, I wonder if they have to take a couple extra strength Tylenols when it's all over with.

I'm really looking forward to the next American Idol. I think there will be some very good singers this season. I'm not sure about one though, the crazy dude they picked. Why did they pick him? I don't understand. In my opinion I really don't think he was, in their words, "the next American Idol." What did you think?

Stay with me as we discuss more shows, and please, don't be shy, post your comments and opinions.....I'd love to hear what you think too.

I like american Idol, But what I like the most is Simon tells the truth if they wanted sugar coating they can get that from their parents. The music industry is a hard industry and Simon just giving them a little taste of what its like. This is the best show out there to prep you for that. They should be lucky to be on the show. I like Simon.
