American Idol Baby Names

Recalcitrantem
American Idol is a television phenomenon, and maybe people will like some of the names they hear from the contestants. There are often correlations between names heard often in pop culture, like American Idol, and also names in soap operas, and the most popular baby names in any given year. Here are some of the meanings of the names of the 13 current contestants on American Idol.

Ashthon - An alternate spelling of Ashton, which is a unisex name. It is English in origin and means "Ash Tree Town." Many English names are based on locations - like Haley, below.

Casey - Casey is a unisex name, which means it's for both boys and girls. It is Irish in origin, and means "Vigilant in War." I wonder if that will help Casey win American Idol this year!

Haley - Haley is also a unisex name, though in America it's mostly a girl's name. Its roots lie in English and mean (unsurprisingly)" From the hay clearing."

Jacob - Jacob is always one of the top boy's names in the US. It is a biblical name, and Hebrew. It means "Supplanter." The definition of supplanter is "one who wrongfully or illegally seizes and holds the place of another." I wonder how many people know that before they name their little baby boy Jacob - or James, as you'll see below.

James - James means the same thing as Jacob, and is also Hebrew.

Karen - Karen is a girl's name. It is Scandinavian, and means "Pure." Will karen's purity bring her an American Idol victory?

Lauren - Lauren is an American girl's name that means "Laurel," which is a group of flowering plants. Mountain laurel is the state flower in both Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Naima - Naima is a girl's name. It is Arabic in origin, and means "Delight," or "Contentedness." Will Naima be delighted to hear the results of American Idol's most recent voting?

Paul - Paul is another biblical name, and is Latin in origin. It means "Small." I doubt this Paul can be considered "small," if he's one of the top contenders to be American idol!

Pia - Pia is a name with Italian roots, and means "Pious." Will Pia's piousness lead her to a win?

Stefano - Stefano is a boy's name, and a form of Stefanos, or Stephen. It is green, and means "Crown." Will Stefano be crowned the winner of this year's American Idol?

Thia - Thia could be an alternate spelling of Thea. Thea is a Greek girl's name meaning "Gift of God." Winning American Idol really would be a gift for Thia!

Neat approach to a popular show. Wouldn't it be funny if you predict the winner by the meaning of his or her name.
