"American Idol", a Ballpark Homerun Phenomenon
"American Idol" Standing the Test of Time with Viewers
"American Idol" has seen the gamut of controversy, from contestants lying about everything from their age to criminal history. Other controversies have consisted of accusations of improper relationships and failures to disclose everything from sexual indiscretions to previous record contracts.
"American Idol" has not also been without controversy over the years with what can either be labeled technology errors or unexplained misroutes. Many of the controversial exits by contestants have been questioned because of possible misinterpretations of votes due to problems with voting numbers being crossed with other contestants and possible tapering misconduct with votes. Ultimately the way people are voted off has come under scrutiny time and time again. Even the winners have been questioned over the years with many accusations of negotiations being reached before the actual tally has been processed and announced.
"American Idol" however is what most network executives would label as a show that "hit an out of the ballpark homerun", with its ability to span not only a vast audience but maintain its luster through hard economic times and controversies. Whether its the wide appeal in ages or the huge draw it has with every class of people, "American Idol" has weathered the climate changes and gone on to become an unstoppable storm.
However when changes started being made to the judges, many people were skeptical as to whether "American Idol" would still be well received by its huge dedicated fan base. As well as, many fans quickly sparked controversy online by arguing over the networks mindset and whether they were playing with fire when it comes to messing with the judges. After all the judging panel had been there from the beginning offering a good mix of laughter, guidance and call it as I see it rawness spawned by the beloved Simon Cowell. After all, Simon Cowell pulled no punches or held back any misgivings about the contestants talent or in some instances lack of talent. He also helped many viewers understand what is known as the "Wow Factor" and how contestants were being judged on not only their singing ability but their marketing ability. Paula Abdul, however offered the kindness and guiding light factor, changing even the worst performances into a chance to learn from their mistakes. On the other hand judge Randy Jackson offered a little of both, he had the guidance thing going along with ability to speak the truth about every contestants talent.
