American Idol Begins - February 21, 2006

Who Will Be the Next American Idol?

Misti Sandefur

This is it America, the moment we've all been waiting for! The auditions are over, and the final contestants have been chosen. Now it's our turn to vote! I've been anxiously waiting for American Idol to begin, and now that it's finally here I'm so excited! Paula, Randy and Simon done a wonderful job picking the contestants for this season's American Idol - they picked some pretty talented folks. Not only are there some talented ones competing this season, but there's a few young ones too. Have you picked your favorite American Idols yet? Are they the same as mine? Let me know who your favorites are, and if you keep reading you'll find out who my favorites are.

Opening the show tonight was Mandisa - what a great opening! Next up, after Mandisa, was Kellie Pickler. Kellie is my favorite from the girls' side. Not only has she lived a tough life, but I think she has a beautiful singing voice. However, with tonight's performance I would have to agree with Randy, she did seem to have a little trouble on the high notes. Kellie admitted to being nervous tonight, and it seemed to show in her voice, but she managed to pull it off and do a good job anyway.

Ayla Brown - WOW! That pretty much sums up everything I had to say about her performance tonight. It was pretty much a flawless performance. My second favorite of the girls is Paris Bennett. Nerves didn't show in her singing at all tonight. She looked as comfortable as she could be on that stage, and performed beautifully. Very well done, Ayla! Stevie Scott has a pretty voice, but her performance tonight could have used some work. Like Randy said, it was hard to get into the song - to feel the song in other words.

"It was boring," Randy told Heather Cox, and Paula and Simon agreed with Randy. I must also agree with the judges, Heather didn't do a good job. Now Melissa McGhee on the other hand, she did a great job with When the Lights Go Down. Of course Simon didn't think so, his words were: "you're a bit lifeless when you sing." I have to disagree with Simon (don't we all), I think Melissa put life into the song myself.

Lisa Tucker deserved each and every positive comment that she received from all three of the judges. Lisa may be 16-years-old but she sure doesn't sound it. I think Lisa sounds much older than 16, and much more mature, what are your thoughts? After Kinnik Sky sang Randy gave her a six on a scale of one to ten, but I disagreed with him, I gave Kinnik a nine instead; beautifully sung.

Finally, last to perform was Katharine McPhee. Secrest was correct when he said they were "saving the best for last." Simon told Katharine, "four great vocalists tonight and you were the best!" One time I'll have to agree with Simon, she was the best!

Tune in tomorrow night for the guys, and join me back here to find out who my favorite is from the guys' side. Don't forget to leave your comments and opinions before you leave. But most of all, don't forget to vote - their success depends on us now!
I'll leave you now as I go place my vote for Kellie. Like I said earlier, she may have had a bit of trouble with the high notes, but I think she still did well enough to get a vote.
