American Idol Birthdays: Season 8

Renee Bagley
Last night's Idol showed the season 8 contestants perform songs from the years in which they were born.

First up was season 8's oldest contestant: Danny Gokey. He was born on April 24, 1980. His song choice had him performing "Stand By Me", from 1980. He has a really raspy voice, which should show to be an advantage. This music teacher isn't a bad singer.

Kris Allen was born on June 21, 1985 in Arkansas. He sang "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" from the year 1985. Kara said "it was jazz funk" and Paula called him "the most likable contestant". The judges agreed that he chose the wrong song and that he had plenty of good song choices that he could have chosen from 1985. His performance was lame and he didn't get a chance to really entertain because he had a mob of girls circled around him during the song. Just weird!

Lil Rounds was up next singing Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It". Lil was born on October 20, 1984 in Mephis Tennessee. I really liked the song arrangement and her voice. Simon said that she "didn't make an impact" and then said she "needs to be original". Lil has a very good voice, and the judges seem to agree. I hope she steps it up a notch, because I do not want her to be sent home. Lil is talented and she looked fabulous (like a star).

Anoop Desai was born on December 20, 1986. He sang Cyndi Lauper's song "True Colors". I did think Anoop was better than usual, which is not saying a lot. Anoop is, by far, the least talented Idol in the group, and I expect him to go home on tonight's Idol.

Scott MacIntyre was born on June 22, 1985. He performed a song from 1985, called "The Search Is Over". Scott also played electric guitar and hit the high notes pretty good, in my opinion. The judges did not seem overly impressed.

Allison Iraheta is the youngest of the season 8 Idol's. She was born on April 27, 1992 in Los Angeles, California. She sang "I Can't Make You Love It" from 1992. Allison's voice is still rocking and even with her deep voice, she can still hit the high notes. Simon called her performance "really good". Her voice smokes most everyone else!

Matt Giraud was born on May 11, 1985 in Dearborn, Michigan. I actually missed most of his performance this time around. I am still rooting for him, but was too busy to watch!

I missed Adam Lambert's performance, as did many people as the show ran over and TIVO did not get his performance.

Don't forget to tune in to tonight's American Idol to see who gets sent home next. You can watch Idol tonight (Wednesday) on channel 4, at 8 pm central time. Don't forget to vote after the 8pm-9pm performance. The voting number is 1-866-436-57 (last two digits are contestant number).
