American Idol: The Boys Club Reigns in the Top 3

And then there were 3. In a strange week of Rock music and oddly horrid bad attempts at singing Dream on, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey managed to survive elimination to make it to American Idol's final 3. The three now get to go home for a few days before returning to Hollywood to complete their mission to become the next American Idol.

According to American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, Adam Lambert has the competition in the bag already. He told Oprah Winfrey today that Lambert has "swagger" and I have to agree. Lambert is the front-runner, by a long shot, as long as he picks the right songs and sings them well. Then again, I'm not sure there is much that Lambert can do to lose his fan base. Much like Danny Gokey, who managed to completely mangle "Dream On" and survive elimination without even facing the bottom 2.

Are the final 3 the correct choices? I think that, based on overall performances, they are. That's not to say that I wouldn't have loved to see Allison Iraheta as the next American Idol, but this season has been jam packed with talent. With as much talent as there has been, the new American Idol needs to stand out dramatically every single week and that wasn't the case with Iraheta.

Now that the final 3 have been determined, they headed home to face their hometown fans, which proved to be quite interesting for Adam Lambert. After finishing "Mad World", a fan rushed the stage wearing nothing but a skirt and bra. Gokey's hometown visit didn't go quite as smoothly as his American Idol stage performances either. It appears, from videos that are surfacing, that he forgot the words to the song he was singing for his American Idol supporters. At least American Idol hopeful Kris Allen had a hometown visit that didn't hit the blog headlines for craziness.

Who will be the next American Idol? It will be a male, we can guarantee that much, at least. I think that, with the quality of the final 3, American Idol fans are in for a real treat, no matter who wins. Win or lose, all 3 will have promising careers after their time with the American Idol family is through. As will several other American Idol cast offs, including Allison Iraheta.
