Tuesday's show started out with Blake Lewis singing "All Mixed Up" by the band 311, a tune unfamiliar to the judges. He did a great job with his be-bop, hip-hop style providing a refreshing start to the line up. Briefly it appeared that maybe the night would not be as disappointing as I had expected.
As young Sanjaya took the stage, my glimmer of optimism faded. This young man, although charming and cute with his description of his ability to hula dance, fell terribly flat with his performance. His rendition of John Mayer's "Waiting On The World To Change" was really boring. Sanjaya is too inexperienced for this contest. In time, he may have what it takes but he is not polished enough at this point to remain in the competition.
Next up was Sundance. His performance of Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" was not too bad but certainly not star quality. It paled in comparison to the performance of "Mustang Sally" that he delivered last week but it was probably still good enough for him to advance to next week's competition.
A boring performance of Keith Urban's "Tonight I Wanna Cry" sung by Chris Richardson was next. It was so bad, it made me wanna cry. Then Jared Cotter failed miserably in his attempt to sing Stevie Wonder's "If You Really Love Me" and the show seemed to be in a permanent downward spiral.
Just as I was nodding off, on came Brandon Rogers who at least tried to put a little pizzazz into his song styling of Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate". His energy was refreshing but overall his performance was just okay but really nothing special.
Next came a disappointing performance by Phil Stacey of LeAnn Rimes' "I Need You". The promise that he showed early on seems to have faded and his time on the show may come to an end rather soon.
The last performance and perhaps the saving grace for Tuesday's show was Chris Sligh's performance of DC Talk's "Wanna Be Loved". His dynamic voice certainly doesn't match his unusual look but he is probably the best male vocalist competing this season. His performance was the highlight of this show.
Though I think the show should save us all further torture and send the majority of the guys home, my picks for elimination this week are Sanjaya and Jared. In previous weeks, Sanjaya was spared an early departure because of his apparent popularity among the viewers. I think his luck is about to run out.
Let's face it folks - this year's American Idol winner will definitely be a female!

Post a CommentWell written. I don't watch American Idol but my best friend does. I do however like the singer who won, I don't know which year, Carrie Underwood.
I couldn't agree more.
