American Idol Contestant Carly Smithson Says Goodbye

I had Carly Smithson pegged as one of the top three this season on American Idol. Imagine how shocked I was to see her voted off of American Idol this week. What were American Idol viewers thinking? Carly Smithson gave a performance that I thought wasn't half bad last night on American Idol and yet she has to say goodbye. Meanwhile singers such as Brooke White stay in the competition. First it was Michael Johns who was voted off too early and now it's Carly Smithson, what is America thinking? Do they not watch the same American Idol as I do?

Last night Carly Smithson sang "Jesus Christ Superstar" on American Idol. The judges seemed to like her performance and besides a little "shouting" even Simon enjoyed her performance. Apparently American Idol viewers didn't think the same way as the judges. Oh wait. I forgot that American Idol is a "popularity contest" not a singing competition. Or at least that is the way it seems. With Syesha Mercado in the bottom two tonight, after what I thought was one of her strongest performances last night, I had to wonder what the American Idol viewers want in their American Idol. What I am guessing is an eligible bachelor with pretty eyes or a tall blonde with pouty lips. If it were up to me Brooke White and Jason Castro would have been in the bottom two tonight on American Idol. Obviously it isn't up to me because Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson shared the stage as the bottom two on Idol tonight.

Now we are down to the remaining five on American Idol and I wonder if the best man, or woman, will really win? If either of the "Davids" win American Idol I wouldn't be shocked or disappointed. If someone who strums the guitar with pretty blue eyes or someone who pouts her lips and cries at the drop of the hat end up winning American Idol I will believe that America cares more about looks than talent. If Syesha Mercado wins American Idol then America will have finally opened their eyes to see how talented this young lady is.

Last week I predicted Brooke White to go home this week on American Idol. I thought that last night after forgetting the lyrics and then singing in a boring performance on American Idol my wishes would come true. I couldn't have been more wrong. America couldn't have been either. Good luck to you Carly Smithson in your career and in life.
