American Idol Contestant Found Dead Outside Paula Abdul's Home
And Other American Idol Obsessions
It seems a sad situation to live a life consumed with another person. Abdul's picture was found hanging from her rearview mirror and her license plate read ABL LV. The deceased mother is said to have reported that her daughter was suicidal, how tragic that she couldn't get help and find her own goals and identity in life rather than emulating Paula Abdul.
Abdul is not the only one with obsessive fans. Early in his career, American Idol borne, Clay Aiken was plagued with obsessive fans. In 2004, when Aiken was getting on his feet, he called police on obsessed fans camped outside his home. He also reportedly pouted when his security didn't start their shift until late and his friends were able to get out early and "do their thing."
Aiken thought of leaving the music industry at the time, but apparently talent and good sense won out over being forced to stay home alone. Maybe money can buy happiness, or at least keep friends close until you can get out of the house.
Seems American Idol incites fan obsession with judges and contestants. David Archuleta, from the 2008 season, has a posse of obsessed fans who continue to update the American Idol Blog with their obsessions over the young singer. Male and female alike, the self proclaimed obsessed fans call themselves Archies.
So far, there are no reported incidents between Archies and David Archuleta, but based on Idol's history I'd like to tell Archuleta to keep a heads up for incoming Idol fans.
