'American Idol' Contestants Choose Songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
But Did They Pick the Right Song for Their Voice and Possible Singing Career?
Casey Abrams stayed in his unpredictable lane with "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The judges were impressed and Randy said Casey makes the bass hot again. See his performance.
James Durbin sang "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from George Harrison's songbook. Check out his performance. I thought this was a great selection for James. Prior to this he mostly sang fast rock 'n roll songs, so this song had to help his chances of connecting more so with the audience. Not that he didn't already connect, but a slower more meaningful song allows a bigger connection.
Haley Reinhart - She took on Janis Joplin's song "Piece of My Heart." Check out her performance. There is no denying she is talented and her voice is one of a kind. But will she win?
Scotty McCreery decided on Elvis Presley's song "That's All Right." See how Scotty changed it up with this live video. This was a big change for Scotty, who normally stays in the country lane. He worked the stage and had the young girls running up on stage just to hug him. I seriously cannot wait to buy his album, as long as he sticks to country...
Jacob Lusk chose "Man In The Mirror" from Micheal Jackson. What did you think of his performance? I am not a big fan of Jacob, however there is no denying his voice is really good. I did like his song selection this week, and he did a good job, but will it be enough to stay in the competition? We'll find out tonight.
Lauren Alaina chose "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" from Aretha Franklin. You don't want to miss her performance. it's moments like last night that make me think she could really win this thing.. Out of the girls left I think Lauren has the best chance to win.
Paul McDonald changed it up and chose Johnny Cash's song "Folsom Prison Blues." If you missed it check out his performance here. While I like Paul's quirkiness, many fans are complaining about his performances. He needs to find more rocking songs that match his personality better..just my opinion.
Pia Toscano finally, yes, finally chose an up tempo song called "River Deep Mountain High" by Tina Turner. If you missed her performance check it out here. Like all of the 'Idol' contenders she has amazing pipes, but her disadvantage each week is her song choice. She somehow needs to get more hip, to say the least. At least it wasn't a ballad...
Stefano Langone "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Percy Sledge. You can find his performance here. I personally am not digging Stefano. He is the weakest singer of the group - in my opinion. All the singers this year can sing, so instead of picking who will win - it's easier to pick who will not - Stefano gets that slot for me.
