American Idol: David Archuleta Performs "Angel"

David Archuleta Sings like an Angel

Meucci Cameron
David Archuleta proved again why he is one of the top contenders for American Idol this season. The 17-year-old Idol contestant sat alone at the grand piano for the entire performance. I was glad that David A. stayed seated for the entire song, sometime the performance gets away from him when he works the stage.

Singing "Angels" originally performed by Robbie Williams and covered by Jessica Simpson. I knew David A. would have a great performance tonight on American Idol, as soon as I heard that it was inspirational night. David Archuleta sings like he was trained in a Baptist choir, perfect for an inspirational song. For being the youngest American Idol contestant left, David A. manages to put emotion into every performance.

Since David A. picks songs that he can emotionally connect with, he is often criticized by Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson for his choices. This young contestant has grown up singing semi-professionally, but has yet to find his 'pop' style.

Tonight was definitely David Archuleta's strongest performance in the last few weeks (last week was strong too). His fan base should easily carry David A. into the American Idol Top 4.

Here is how the judging went down:

Randy Jackson - "dude that was... dude when you did those runs at the end... dude that was hot! Your best vocals ever for me man!"

Paula Abdul - "fantastic"

Simon Cowell - "Best song choice for tonight [Idol Gives Back]... I don't agree with Randy, that it was your best vocal. David, I'm knit-picking here because you are going to sail into the next round!"

After tonight's American Idol Top 8 performances it is safe to say that the Top 5 should be (in order of how I think they will finish:

5. Jason Castro (this is the tough call!)
4. Carly Smithson
3. Michael Johns
2. David Archuleta
1. David Cook

I agree that David A. did a fantastic job. I thought his live version was better than his studio version, which is impressive! However, I agree with a previous commenter regarding David C.'s arrogance. He exudes just enough arrogance to irk me each week - to the point of me fast forwarding through his performance when I rewatch AI later in the week. Will that be his tragic flaw? Maybe.. David A. will surely outsell the other AI season 7 contestants this season, regardless of whether or not he wins the thing.

I'm sure David A will win, because 13 year-old girls are voting like crazy. lol He has a good voice, but he doesn't have star quality. I can see him starring on a Disney tv show or something like that, though. Like a male Hannah Montana. That's really about it. Sorry, David A fans.

I REALLY hope that David Archuleta does win! I have been a huge fan of his since Star Search... where he should have won! David A. is an amazing talent, and I know that it won't matter if he wins Idol or not, he will be a star! I think right now though, that David C. seems to have the momentum. David A. has a much more pure voice than David C. ... I would be thrilled to be wrong about the overall winner of AI!

Sorry but I really don't agree with your predictions...I think the two Daivds will be switched with David A. on top! Just remember....."David Archuleta is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much betta" than David Cook. Sorry....and I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, by the way. =) I love Daivd Archuleta I can't even explain it! Dangggg.....(Not in a creepy, stalking way or anything though...HeHE.) =)

David A blew me away... again. I agree with your top 5, except David Cook and David Archuleta should be flipped around. They're both talented, but David A. is the better singer and tonight's show proved that.
