American Idol: David Cook's Hospital Visit

No Reason to Give Up the Dream

As many of you know, David Cook was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, on Tuesday after his performance of Dolly Parton's song "Little Sparrow". Many are left to wonder if this episode may spell the end of Cooks' quest to be the next American Idol. There's really no reason jump to such a rash conclusion.

Week after week, David Cook takes to the stage and makes it look easy, but it's not. I would wager that the American Idol stage is one of the most harrowing places in America. You're up there pouring all of you into a performance that you hope someone likes. That by itself must engender an enormous amount of stress. Add to that the recent news report from usatoday.com, that David is also living with the specter of having a brother who is battling cancer. Perhaps, he is coming down with something. Goodness knows there been enough illness on the show his season. A low grade infection can really wreak havoc on the body's systems. At this point any supposition I make is purely speculative. None of can really knows the outcome.

Whether, David is experiencing a long term illness or an acute stressor or even a low grade infection, there is no reason to expect that he'd walk away from his dream. I fully expect that that he'll take whatever measures need to be taken and be back on stage next week with yet another phenomenal performance.
