American Idol Disco Week Results

Week seven of "American Idol" was deemed Disco week but as it turned out not many of the Idols actually performed their songs in the disco style. The entertainers; however, that were chosen for the results show were stars from the disco era and performed their hits - Freda Payne who sang her hit "Band of Gold", Thelma Houston performed "Don't Leave Me This Way", and KC from KC and the Sunshine Band performed his hit song "Get Down Tonight".

This week's group sing-a-long was more of a group dance-a-long as "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul choreographed the dance steps for the Michael Jackson song "Shake Your Body Down to the Ground". The seven Idols danced around the stage wearing clothing styles popular in the seventies and dark glasses.

Right after the group number the first of two Idol hopefuls was eliminated. There was no listing of three singers and then choosing the lowest vote getter; only one name was called - the mother of three Lil Rounds. With Lil's elimination two of Simon's predictions came true; the first was on the performance show when he told Lil he thought it would be her last week and the second was from a few weeks ago when he told a 16 year old Allison Iraheta that she was the only hope for the girls to have a spot in the finals.

With a double elimination there was no bottom three named for the setting to send a second singer home - only two names were sent to the stools on the opposite side of the stage - Allison Iraheta and Anoop Desai.

Season eight of "American Idol" has brought a lot of surprises and firsts; another occurred tonight when host Ryan Seacrest announced that over 45 million votes had been cast by viewers and fans.

Before the second singer was sent home last season's runner up David Archuleta made a return to the Idol stage to perform. Before leaving the stage Archuleta gave a bit of a pep talk to the bottom two of Anoop and Allison telling them that "American Idol" was only the beginning.

After seven weeks of a roller coaster ride performance wise the luck finally ran out for Idol hopeful number 13 - Anoop Desai - Anoop was the last singer given a spot in the finals making a total of 13 singers.

With only five singers remaining "American Idol" should have no trouble keeping within the time limit next week - but with "American Idol" you never know what to expect. There are only a few weeks remaining before the finals so choosing the right song and giving an impressive performance is even more important than ever - in fact it is essential - if the remaining singers want to move on toward the finals and being crowned as the winner.
