American Idol Eliminates Didi Benami

American Idol send Didi Benami home and now there are nine contestant left. Ellen Degeneres described Didi's performance as overly dramatic and not her best performance. During Didi's mentoring with Usher she cried after the practice song and admitted she had emotional ties to the song, "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted". Didi's Glamor Girl look did not match her vocals during her song choice. There was so much pitchiness and her vocals were just really bad. Randy described the performance as flat lining and said he did not get it.

Song choice is so very important at this point in the competition as those who do not have that Idol quality begin to eliminated. Simon's description as "old fashioned" and said she is "no longer contemporary." At this point he make the somewhat controversial statement about Dancing with the Stars in which he states that Didi sounds like one the of the singers on Dancing who is "murdering a song" and "if you've ever watched it" and then we hear the obligatory ooh from Randy when a dig is made. Although he did do a little bit of a grin and raise his shoulders in a busted sort of way afterwords. I don't believe Simon was trying to do anything but be sarcastic which is why we listen to him. His dead on analysis is why we respect him and why we tune into American Idol.

Didi Benami is very pretty and has those everyday girl qualities that people love when voting on American Idol but her last performance probably was her undoing. Interestingly enough is Didi ever wants to consider a career in politics she may be very good at it. When pressed by Ryan Seacrest repeatedly about why the song "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" made her emotional and brought her to tears with Usher she talked around the answer beautifully and although he happened to know her back story and revealed a bit, she never gave in. I was impressed with that ability more than her singing.
