The first elimination night for American Idol's Season Seven Top 24 was brutal. After over 28 million votes from American fans, not one, not two, but four contestants were sent home on February 21, 2008.

American Idol opened the show on elimination night with a group performance by the Top 24 of Season Seven. The contestants lit up the stage with a fun medley of hits from the 1960's era.

The first contestant to be eliminated from American Idol was 17-year-old Garrett Haley, from Elida, Ohio. Garrett gave his final performance on American Idol by singing the Neil Sedaka hit, "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do."

Next in the American Idol elimination hot seat was Amy Davis. The 25-year-old Lowell, Indiana resident sang her final song to Connie Francis' "Where The Boys Are."

At the midpoint of elimination night, American Idol features a new video or guest performer. The featured performer tonight was none other than American Idol judge, Paula Abdul. "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow," which was produced by fellow American Idol judge, Randy Jackson, is Paula Abdul's first new song in over a decade.

The American Idol elimination process continued with Ryan Seacrest calling two of the remaining girls to the stage, Joanne Borgella and Amanda Overmyer. After making the contestants sweat it out through the commercial break, it was announced that 25-year-old Joanne Borgella, from Hoboken, New Jersery would be the third contestant leaving the show. Joanne sang her farewell to Dionne Warwick's song, "I Say A Little Prayer For You."

With only one more contestant to be eliminated, Ryan Seacrest asked Chikezie and Colton Berry to join him on center stage. The fourth and final contestant sent home was Staunton, Virginia resident Colton Berry. The 18-year-old performed the Elvis Presley hit, "Suspicious Minds."

On the first elimination night of Season Seven, American Idol bid farewell to four talented performers: Garrett Haley, Amy Davis, Joanne Borgella, and Colton Berry.

The remaining contestants will be back to compete again next week. Tune in to American Idol on Tuesday night on FOX at 8/7 Central to watch the boys, Wednesday night on FOX at 8/7 Central to see the girls, and Thursday night on FOX at 8/7 Central to witness the next elimination.

This was a great submission! I haven't been watching AI this season but you've captured all of the pertinent details beautifully! Thanks!

I am really digging this show - I liked the homeless guy the most - he actually showed up on the Ellen show and got like $8,000 worth of music equipment which I thought was cool.

I'm happy about who was voted off except the plus size model girl; I really liked her.

Not much of a fan of AI honestly, except for the goofballs that get cut early.
