The only thing that completely surprised me on "American Idol" last night was that I was right: both Scotty and Lauren Alaina have made it to the 'Idol finale!! Two country singers in one competition. What can I say, it's a country music kind of year.
And the country crooners certainly stepped up their game this week giving good, solid performances, nice song selection, and hometown visits kept the energy up. The two youngest competitors made it to the very end!
Scotty McCreery - I can't help but see him as a young George Strait. Say what you will, but that's how I see him. The ladies love him, he has that deep growl, and he's young so he has yet to show his full potential. His voice is a bit more reminiscent of Alan Jackson, but his appeal is George Strait-ish.
Lauren Alaina - She has overcome her shyness and this week gave everything she had to her performances. And it was great to see this young girl step out of her shell and deliver her best performances. And there she is hitting her stride on the 'Idol stage!
Haley Reinhart was sent home and at least when she sang her swan song she laid off the growls. If she would have done this sooner, she might have stayed. This week she had her best song selections of all time, but her growl kept her from fully succeeding. She's talented this we all know, but her vocal tone was very hard to sell. I have a feeling this won't be the end of her though.
Congratulations go out to all three of them for making it this far. Who do you think is going to win this season? I have to keep my bets on my boy Scotty. But if he happens to lose- there is no better person to lose to than Lauren. It's a win-win situation!

Post a CommentI am truly surprised that Lauren is in the finale. She's yet to really give us a moment and she missed several opportunities to deliver that this week and instead played it safe and stuck to her safety zone. She's a far less adept singer than Haley and I think the judges should have been harder on her all along - or at least as hard on her as they were on Haley. And such hypocrites! Haley goes for a smooth ballad song and they crap on her for not growling, but when someone else goes for something of a different tempo than usual, they said they liked seeing another side of them. Scotty's won this year, but Haley was put through hell and got as far as 3rd place, which is quite an achievement. I'll be watching out like a hawk for Haley's first album release (and Casey's) and will probably not even bother to watch this year's finale.
