American Idol Finale - Casey James and Brett Michaels Performance Stole the Show

Cindy Wright
Tonight was the finale for Season nine of American Idol. However the best part of the American Idol Finale was by Casey James and Brett Michaels their performance stole the show.

The finale had many great talented singers and group numbers. The show started with Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyse coming onto the stage and we got a glimpse of their hometown fans. The first performance of the night had the Top 10 back together again. They were dressed in school uniforms and sing "School's Out". A group or what can be described as evil looking kids also join in and then Casey James introduces Alice Cooper and he joins them on stage as he sings with them.

Ryan then introduces homage to Simon Cowell. This is Simon's last night on American Idol as he is going to be doing a new show The X Factor. They show some of the funniest moments from Simon's time on Idol and the other judges making jokes about him.

Aaron Kelly and Siobhan Magnus start singing a duet "How Deep is Your Love" and are joined by the Bee Gees.

Kris Allen, last year's winner takes the stage and performs his newest single, "The Truth."

Next is Michael Lynch. He sings "Takin' It to the Streets" and is joined by Michael McDonald. This performance was not good. But I much prefer Taylor Hicks singing this song. He sang it on Idol Season five and it was a much better performance. The song is also the second track on Taylor Hicks "Do I Make You Proud "CD.

Dane Cook takes the stage next and sings a song about some of Simon's best insults. At the end of the song several people that Simon rejected comes on the stage.

The girls are the next to come on the stage and sings "Fighter" by Cristina Aguilera. She then joins them partway through the song and sings a newer song also. I think the girls did better singing "Fighter" then she did with the sing she sang.

Next up is the guys and the sing a medley of songs by Hall and Oats, who then join them on stage to sing "You Make My Dreams Come True"

Next Crystal's fans are shown again and Ryan talks to her Dad, before she takes the stage and starts to sing an Alanis Morrisette song and she then introduces Morrisette and they sing together.

Next up is Carrie Underwood, winner of season four. She sings her newest single, "Undo It. Carrie looked beautiful as always and once again did a top notch performance. We next see Crystal and Lee going to do what they think is a Ford photo shoot. They are instead met by Kris Allen who shows them their new cars from Ford.

I have spent the night up to this point wondering when will Casey James get to perform and who will he perform with and also waiting to see Taylor Hicks, as rumors said Taylor would be on the show and possibly sing a duet with Elliott Yamin. Which if this was to happen, it would be the song from Taylor's album, "The Distance" "Woman Gotta Have IT", that Elliott sings with Taylor.

Next is the first thing I have been waiting for. Casey James comes out on stage looking and sounding better than ever as he performs "Every Rose Has It's Thorn", with an acoustic guitar, and an electric guitar behind his back, when I saw that electric guitar I knew something great was about to happen. The crowd goes wild as Poison front man Brett Michaels comes onto the stage to sing with Casey James. It was great to see Brett back on the stage, especially with his recent health problems. The Casey James and Brett Michaels performance stole the show. Casey James showed he has enormous talent and will go on to great things. He may not have won the show but his career is just beginning and I am sure he will soar to great heights.

Next Lee Dewyse starts singing a medley of Chicago songs and Chicago joins Lee on stage. This performance bored me.

We then see homage to Simon's "flirting" moments on the show. After this General Larry Platt is back and singing Pants on the Ground with a group of dancers and at the end William Hung joins him.

Paula Abdul is next. Love seeing her back on the stage. It starts with her on video recalling how it all began. Paula blows him a kiss and then appears on stage. She jokes about the real reason she left the show and how he has Simon's haircut and is backstage and it is Simon's turn to feed him. She talks about how she personally knows the show will still go on when Simon leaves. Next we see more highlights of Simon with Frank Sinatra's My Way playing in the background.

Next Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood, Reuben Studdard, Fantasia, Jordin Sparks and Kris Allen appear on stage each singing a little on their own.they are then joined by fellow contestants from all the seasons. Paula Abdul sits on Simon's lap as they watch. Ryan then calls Simon on stage. I got to see Taylor Hicks standing behind Simon as he gave a speech about being a little emotional but saying the show will go on and thanks everyone.

The Top 10 starts singing a song and Janet Jackson joins them on stage. She then sings "Nothing" and "Nasty Boys".

Lee and Crystal start singing I Get by With a Little Help from my Friends and are then joined by Joe Cocker.

Now it is time for the new Idol to be crowned. The lights are dimmed and the votes reveal that the American Idol 2010 is Lee Dewyse. Confetti Falls as Lee sings Beautiful Day.

Congrats to Lee and to Crystal. It was a great finale and I know they both will go on to have great careers.

But the most memorable moment of the night for me, of the American Idol Finale will be, that the Casey James and Brett Michael's performance stole the show.

To bad, Crystal didn't win since she was an Ohio native and all. But you know many of other the past runner ups seem to have done better than the winners. Hmmm, sounds like an article idea for you Cindy.
