American Idol Finalist Adam Lambert Rocks the House

With "Play that Funky Music"

Pamela Gentry
In this week's American Idol competition, crowd favorite Adam Lambert did not disappoint with his modern-day rendition of 1976's hit by Wild Cherry, "Play that Funky Music." His contagious energy quickly spread throughout the arena as many people jumped to their feet and joined the groove.

When Adam began to sing this song, one thing was clear. He believed in what he was singing. His cool confidence and sexy swagger suggested that he knew this song was really about him. Adam Lambert knows that he is on his way to success.

Adam appears to have altered his image slightly in recent weeks. His slicked-back pompadour hairstyle paired with his sleek black blazer and flared-leg pants suggest that he may be getting his fashion inspiration from a famous rock legend of the past.

Has anyone else noticed how similar he looks to Elvis? I am certain that Adam would kindly welcome this comparison. When he moved his body around singing "Play that Funky Music," he had some moves that surely would have made the King of Rock-n-Roll proud.

Adam chose a song that was appropriate for him, in that he chose to sing a song that crossed over the boundaries of race and musical genres of its time. Its contagious beat and cool lyrics were already a great beginning point for Adam to work with.

Adding in his legendary and sometimes over-the-top runs, Adam belted out notes that were strong and most importantly, on key. The way that he was able to jump from a section of low notes, immediately into singing out notes that were way up the scale was simply incredible.

Adam Lambert has never been in the bottom of the American Idol voting pool, nor do I suspect that he will be anytime in the near future. Adam Lambert, keep on looking hot and playing your funky music and America will be sure to show you their gratitude each week with a landslide of votes.

I also want to thank you for this article....I get so tired of hearing some say that all Adam can do is scream.....when this is one amazing man that can sing anything....AND the "rock scream"..in perfct pitch..is probably one of the hardest vocal transitions to make...from low notes...to a raucous scream...simply amazing...I find listening to Adam totally addicting...and he also has to be one of the most physically beautiful human beings I have ever seen.....the only one with the impeccable manners to thank the band......a guy with the confidence to get up there and own the stage.....but never cocky.

I think Adam could be the male Madonna, but with much more vocal skill and range--plus he can dance, and change his look and push boundaries to entertain.
