Last night's show began with the judges putting the 71 contestants into separate rooms. After reviewing their performances, the final results were in: Rooms one and three had advanced to the next stage of the competition. Room two would go home. Amongst those leaving were the singing police officer Brian Walker, dock worker Lloyd Thomas, and a tearful Hope Johnson.
Mary Powers, rocker chick, also left Hollywood devastated. Who was surprised? She sounded like a broke-down version of Pink with a cocky, stank attitude. Fans never have appreciated the egotistical, self-indulgent type and they tend to be voted off quickly. After Room two had cleared, 46 singers remained as stage two began.
The talented vocalists anxiously awaited their fates. For the first time in Idol history, they took the long walk down the aisles of the Kodak Theater to face the judges. Some, like Jessica Furney, begged, cried and pleaded for another opportunity to shine. But that was it-the top 24 names were already picked. Day one was over and seven would continue the journey. Have a look at the list:
"Big Mike" Lynche, who has a warm personality like Ruben Studdard. He doesn't have the best voice, but will go far.
Didi Benami, who has a sad story about the death of a friend. It helped Danny Gokey move forward and she will too.
Katelyn Epperly, the frizzy haired blond who brings very little to the show but has a decent voice.
Casey James, the adorable dude from Cool, Texas. Girls love him!
Aaron Kelly, the young kid who reminds me of David Archuleta. He's sweet.
Lee Dewyze, the guy nobody knows.
Todrick Hall, who is cute, funny and definitely going places.
What do you think of the list so far? With the exception of Shelby Dressel, the judges have made good choices. The chosen seven are each great vocalists and many are already popular within the Idol community.
Tonight, 17 more names will join the list rounding out the Top 24 of American Idol: Season 9. According to host Ryan Seacrest, tonight a favorite will go home. Will it be John Park? Tyler Grady? Andrew Garcia? Tune in for the results!
