American Idol on FOX : Contestants Perform Classic Love Songs

David Foster and Andrea Bocelli came together to give the remaining six American Idols advice. And the first to perform was Katharine. Katharine sang Whitney Huston's, "I Have Nothing." However, I don't think Katharine's performance of "I Have Nothing" was noticed as much as the dress she wore. I must say, my husband only half way pays attention to the show, but tonight, when Katharine came on stage he decided to say, "ooo, I like the dress." Of course that's a typical man for you. But I told him she was too young for him, and that he was "very" married. I was joking around with him, and he knew it, because he too was joking around; you just have to know my husband.

Anyway, back to Katharine's performance…Randy told her the song was way too big for her, and Paula told her she had pitch problems. Oh yes, let's not forget Simon's comments. Simon said to Katharine, "by choosing that song, it's like coming out here and saying 'I am as good as Whitney Houston.' And you're not." And Seacrest had a comment for Katharine too, but his comment was not on her singing, it was, of course, on her low cut dress. See, like I just said, a typical man for you. However, I have to admit, it would have been hard for anyone not to notice, but you can bet the guys enjoyed it. By the way, no offense Katharine, "I'm just kidding around here."

It was Elliott's turn to take the stage, and he sang "A song for you," by Donny Hathaway. Randy said, "I hate it, I did not like the arrangement, but I love you."
Paula said, "you move me. You are an American Idol!" She said those words to Elliott while tears streamed down her face. Boy, either the song really did move Paula to tears, or Paula was just very emotional tonight.
Simon told Elliott that he thought his performance was "superb."

Kellie disappointed all three judges when she attempted to sang "Unchained Melody," by the Righteous Brothers. I guess the disappointment was when she decided to give it what she called a "Leann Rimes" twist.
Randy told her she had pitch problems, all expect for the high note, and he said it was "in tune."
Paula told her, "I adore you, but at this point it's about greatness, and I didn't get that from you tonight."

It certainly wasn't the "Unchained Melody" I grew to love, but I think Kellie performed the song as best as she could. They keep stressing in this year's American Idol on FOX to "make it new," and I think Kellie did just that - she tried to "make it new," but apparently she failed to please them.

Paris Bennett's talent made a big impression on Andrea Bocelli and David Foster. Both Mr. Bocelli and Mr. Foster loved Paris, and Mr. Bocelli said "she has an extraordinary voice."

Paris chose to perform Barbra Streisand's "The Way We Were." Randy told Paris, "I liked it, but I wasn't 'over the top' with it." And Paula thought she over sang the song. Simon said, "very good vocal, but old-fashioned for my taste. It sounded a bit like you were trying to impersonate an older artist."

Taylor chose James Ingram's "Just Once," and David Foster loved Taylor's song choice. Mr. Foster even said he potentially thought Taylor "had the most charisma, which is a very, very important part of being a star." However, the judges disagreed. Randy told Taylor, "the song was completely the wrong song for me, for you." And Simon told Taylor that it wasn't a winning performance."

Bringing the show to an end this week was Chris Daughtry. Chris had to go completely out of his element this week by performing a love song instead of his normal rock performances. But he did his best with Bryan Adams' "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" All three judges thought Chris done a good job with the song. As a matter of fact, Paula stood-up and jumped saying, "we love you" a bunch of times.

Not only did Chris impress the judges this week, but during his rehearsal with David and Andrea he learned something new. He learned how to sing while lying down.

The judges didn't really have good feedback for many of the American Idols this week. They did compliment a couple of them, but they put down over half of them. I still haven't figured out if the judges are trying to persuade America into voting for "their" favorites, or if sappy love songs just didn't fit well with the American Idols. It may be a bit of both though, and of course the judges want us to vote for "their" favorites, and we can clearly see who "their" favorites are. Though, from the results over the past weeks, many of us aren't agreeing with the judges. Hey, we have our favorites, and American Idol has asked for us to vote, so that's who we'll vote for, right?

Tune in to American Idol on FOX tomorrow night and find out who stays and who goes.
