Flashback to the 50s

Mandisa opened the show with "I Don't Hurt Anymore." Simon told Mandisa she was blossoming, and that her performance was "sexy." The "bling" that Seacrest pointed out was beautiful, and I noticed it as soon as she came on stage. Boy, what I would have given to have had that necklace! The diamonds just sparkled! I did point the necklace out to my husband too, and I told him I would love to have that, then the next thing I said to him was, "hint," "hint." (With a smile of course.) I'm just dreaming though, because I know we can't afford anything that extravagant right now; maybe someday (I'll keep it on my wish list).

Barry Manilow was right when he said, "Oh Boy is the right choice for Bucky." "Oh Boy" was a wonderful song choice for Bucky - it fit him to a T. However, Simon didn't think so. Simon was the only one of the judges who didn't like it. As a matter of fact, he told Bucky "it was nothing more than a pointless karaoke performance."

Another phenomenal performance by Paris! Not only did she sing "Fever" brilliantly, but her dress attire was stunning. Paula & Seacrest both complimented her on her appearance. Pink looks good on Paris. I believe Paris will make it through with no problems.

Chris attempted to add a new twist to Johnny Cash's song, "I Walk the Line." Like I've said before, I'm not a fan of this, but I must say, Chris didn't do a bad job. Even though Chris done a good job of making the song "his own," I still prefer the original version of "I Walk the Line." Of course that's just my taste, yours may be different.

I was glad to see Taylor's hair was still gray. Although, I see he is still trying to dance - "practice makes perfect." Still the same Taylor and I like that. Barry Manilow seemed to like Taylor too; he said "I think he's the best male vocalist you have on the show." Way to go, Taylor!

Lisa sang "Why Do Fools Fall in Love." Randy said, "it was alright," and Simon said "there are times tonight when I think I'm trapped in a high school musical, and I want to leave. Not a 'wow' performance" My feedback, I expected Lisa's performance to be much better than it was. With that said, I have to agree with Randy and Simon, "it was okay." Lisa was in the bottom three last week, but will her "okay" performance tonight land her in the bottom three again this week? I guess we'll just have to tune into FOX tomorrow night to find out.

Kevin sang "When I Fall in Love," and everyone agreed it was a good song choice for a young high school boy to sing. I also think it was a good song choice for Kevin, but, Seacrest, it didn't make me want to "shed a tear." His performance wasn't the best, but it wasn't too bad either. Kevin gave the song sweetness - meaning it sounded sweet rather than sad.

Kellie chose one of Patsy Cline's songs, "Walkin after Midnight." I think it would be hard to pull off a Patsy Cline song, but Kellie was able to do it. Her performance tonight was a much better performance than last week. Kellie may not sound exactly like Patsy Cline, but she done a wonderful job. Yes, she too put a different twist on the song. Kellie, you've won my vote again this week! Keep on reaching for the stars - you amaze me every week!

Ace decided to put a jazz twist on "In the Still of the Night," and it didn't sound too bad, but it wasn't the song I knew so well. Simon told Ace, "it wasn't the best vocal tonight, but I don't think you'll be in the bottom three this week." Do you think Simon was going easy on Ace, because he was afraid if he was too rough Ace's youngest fan would have scolded him?

Tonight's show was an enjoyable one. I may not have been around in the 50s, but I did know many of the songs, and hearing some of them tonight made for a great show. And I imagine the show probably brought back some great memories for all you older ladies and gentleman too.
