'American Idol' Girl Performances: The Good, the Bad (Karen Rodriguez: English Please!), and the Terrible

Pia Toscano, Thia Megia, and Lauren Alaina Steal the 'Idol' Stage

Jacqueline Winslow
If you missed the "American Idol" stage last night where the Top 12 girls sang, you did not miss much--at least until the end when the "Idol" stage came alive! Out of the top 12, there were only a few, a short few, to really blow the whistle and sing their hearts out. Check out the star-quality performances, then the good, the bad, and the downright terrible top 12 "American Idol" girls!

Star-Quality "American Idol" Performances

Thia Megia There was something so angelic as Megia took to the stage and began with an acappella "Out Here On My Own." She took the audience on a journey that was as magical as it was an amazing performance. She showed the older "Idol" contestants how it is supposed to be done!

Pia Toscano had the judges on their feet after her stellar performance. We watched throughout the night as singer after singer butchered songs. So when Toscano opened her mouth and began to sing, it was actually one of the finer moments of the night. It didn't hurt that she really is the entire package: beautiful, great hair, and she can sing!

Lauren Alaina shows America time and time again that she might be 16, but she has the voice of a mature adult. That girl can sing and we can't wait to see what she brings next week! Of course, she's safe!

Lauren Turner seemed to sway the judges with her performance singing "Seven Day Fool."

She easily had confidence but we didn't get the performance. It wasn't in the same caliber as our top three, but figure she will easily get into the Top 5 Girls on "Idol".

Ashthon Jones didn't give a great performance. But she can sing, so America might just give her a second chance. What else can we say? It was the one time she should have given us the best performance of her life. It didn't happen, so now we wait.

The (So-So) Good, the Bad, and the Terrible "American Idol" Performances

I might as well tell you that it goes down hill from here. The performances weren't great. Instead of English, we heard a song sung in Spanish/English. Word to the wise: sing in English. We are in America for a reason (just my two cents)!

Kendra Chantelle sang Christina Aguilera's "Impossible." She has a great voice but didn't give a WOW (Almost a WOW) performance. She could surprise America and the voters to get into the Top 5. Will have to wait and see!

Karen Rodriguez didn't sing badly. She didn't sing great either. As soon as she started singing in Spanish, she lost us completely. As not everyone (including us) speaks Spanish, there was a problem the second she switched from English to Spanish. If she is going after the Hispanic votes (sounds like politics--YIKES), she'll get their vote for sure. Unfortunately, she lost our vote. FYI: Mariah Carey's "Hero" is hard if not impossible to sing better than Mariah Carey.

Ta-Tynisa Wilson sang Rihanna's "Only Girl In The World." Need we say more? She sang her heart out but somehow, it just wasn't as good as the other ladies. She has some amazing pipes, which makes it hard to admit that it just wasn't great. Hopefully, if she did for some unknown reason get through, she will pick better songs because she really does have an awesome voice.

Naima Adedapo looked amazing. She sang "Summertime," but somehow it didn't come across as a soft-sultry song; instead, it was harsh and almost screaming in parts *tear*. We really like her, really! Hopefully, this won't deter her from continuing after her passion because she did have an amazing voice.

Julie Zorrilla has been one of my top picks from day one. She sang Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway." It was a disappointing turn for her, as even the judges didn't like her performance. She picked a bad song and it wasn't a song to help her shine. We still love you Zorilla!

Haley Reinhart was just difficult to understand. There were some phrases we didn't quite catch; after that, it was just difficult to understand through her rasp. It wasn't a performance we wanted to see again. Alicia Keys is another singer who is just difficult to mirror.

Rachel Zevita sang Fiona Apple's "Criminal." The notes, even for amateurs like me, were all over the board. She was attempting to be a vamp character (which we didn't get). Somehow, her "Idol" performance just was a complete miss.
