Phil Stacey, although showing us the from the get go that he definitely can sing, actually came out of his shell and started off and ended with a bang. He took guest mentor Martina McBride's advice to be as powerful from the first moment you open your mouth to sing to the note you end on. He belted out Keith Urban's Where the Blacktop Ends proving why he still deserves to be in the running for the next American Idol.
The young 17 year old Jordin Sparks is capturing the hearts of many with her sweet smile and wonderful confidence, sometimes we forget just how young she really is. She has an amazing range, learning balance and control ,as well as just having good ol' fun.I have really became a Jordin fan as of late and totally enjoyed her rendition of Martina McBrides huge hit Broken Wing.
LaKisha Jones, well needless to say LaKisha was definitely not in her comfort zone and it showed. The song that she chose Jesus Take the Wheel by former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, although heartfelt, was not her best performance. She struggled through the song and America took notice.
Chris Richardson, how adorable is he?This mild mannered guy can really belt out song lyrics and Mayberry by Rascal Flatts was just right up his alley.Although,Simon said that " it was nasally" I thought Chris got it right.I personally don't think Simon has ever heard Rascal Flatts because if had then he would know how they sound.
Ms.Melinda Dolittle, finally coming into her own realm stepping out from behind the lead singers to being her own.She has a great voice and knows how to control it.Melinda has been listening to criticism and compliments taking it to heart (meekly of course) and making each performance unique and captivating. Her performance of Trouble is a Woman by Julie Reeves set that American Idol stage ablaze.
Blake Lewis,we all love Blake and if you don't you should! This guy is diverse in every way, known for his beat-boxing skills and funky moves he has proven his worth in other cases as well.I enjoy watching him each week just to see what he's going to do and he has never disappointed.Yes, I was shocked to see that he was actually in the bottom three this past week. His flowing Tim McGraw lyrics of When the Stars go Blue where easing and well toned,I thought he did the song justice.
Leaving American Idol last week was Sanjaya Malakar. Most would say about time,I myself am a little confused,in the auditions he was sweet, mild mannered and he had a good voice but as the weeks went on he seemed to fall apart vocal wise.Since many people had been giving him a hard time he actually chose a fitting song,Let's Give them Something to talk About by Bonnie Raitt ,if only he could have had a little better performance instead of worrying about what everyone thought maybe he would have still been in the running.
Getting down to the wire,my thoughts from the beginning have changed at first I thought LaKisha pretty much had it in the bag but ,I would say the past 3 weeks she has really gone down a bit, leaving plenty of lead way for everyone else to shine. My top 3 picks are Jordin Sparks,Blake Lewis and Melinda Dolittle but then again I don't count out Phil Stacey or Chris Richardson either.
Don't forget this week April 24th and April 25th to watch American Idol,on the 24th the contestants perform and that night when you vote sponsors will make a donation to Charity Projects Entertainment Fund to help young children in America and Africa. And on the 25th the American Idol stage as well as the Disney Hall, will have a star studded show including Celine Dion,Kelly Clarkson,Pink,Josh Grobin and many others to help raise money and awareness for the programs that the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund help provide for.
