American Idol Hollywood Week; Scott MacIntyre, Stephen Fowler Top Picks So Far

Nina Rotz
American Idol Hollywood Week started Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009. This marks American Idol's eighth season in Hollywood, and as a bonus Idol fans will be treated to two weeks of Hollywood auditions and cuts. This is where Idol competition gets serious. Hollywood is all about picking through golden tickets, breaking hearts and finding that shiny needle in the haystack.

This is American Idol's new judge Kara DioGuardi first time in Hollywood Week, and I'd have to say that she meshes well with the rest of the judges. Kara and Paula Abdul seem to get along well, and Kara plays off the weird, kooky antics of Paula Abdul on Idol.

My favorite part about Hollywood Week is that American Idol producers finally put a stop to the sappy, sad life stories or the plain out making fun of audition hopefuls. During weeks of auditions, the same old American Idol shtick gets old. Hollywood Week is all about the talent, competition Boot Camp and song assignments. We get to see contestants that were not featured during audition weeks, which is always a treat. American Idol producers are so concerned about viewers coming back to see the crazy, no-talent contestants that they forget to feature the true singers with vocal skills.

Scott MacIntyre is so far my top pick for American Idol. His disability has been discussed on American Idol as well as online, however I believe that viewers should concentrate on his talent. Scott MacIntyre passed Hollywood Week's first night, although he was not featured. I assume that AI covered MacIntyre enough in previous episodes, so they are using the time to showcase other contestants. MacIntyre will be a force, I can see him making into American Idol Top 10 for Season 8.

Stephen Fowler is another one of my favorites. I enjoyed Fowler's rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman". Anoop Desai has good tone and has good voice control. I enjoyed his rendition of "If It's Magic", but Megan Corkery stole my heart this Hollywood night. First of all, I cannot properly say her last name and tonight I have referred to her as Corky, Cordy and Corker. However, Megan passed as well with her rendition of "Can't Help Loving that Man of Mine." There is something about this song choice because Megan mentioned in her audition that she is recently divorced. Seems like an ironic choice for her Hollywood Week song, but even Simon ended up liking it.

In all, Scott MacIntyre, Stephen Fowler, Anoop Desai and Megan Corkery have all made it through the first round of American Idol Hollywood Week. They are my top favorites right now that I'll faithfully be watching. Unfortunately, Bikini Girl Katrina Darrell made it as well. I do not know what American Idol is thinking, giving this snobby untalented "model" more attention. It must be the ratings, because it sure is not her singing.

I love that Adam Lambert guy, the one with the David Cook haircut.

I saw a video clip of Bikini Girl performance on the View today. She sounded even worse a day after.

Great overview. I also am not too thrilled about bikini girl making it, but it does make sense in the life of Hollywood, I suppose.
