American Idol: Howard Stern a Big-Haired Replacement for Simon Cowell?

American Idol: Howard Stern could be Simon Cowell's replacement. Stern just confirmed American Idol rumors floating around could be true, and that he is thinking of joining the show. While many were afraid that Idol would crumble once Simon Cowell departed to promote the American version of X Factor, adding Howard Stern to the mix could just keep the show on top.

Think about it - one of the most controversial radio hosts hosting one of the biggest shows on TV. It's a recipe for success. In addition, can you imagine how he and Ellen Degeneres would interact with each other. It would truly be a very funny crew, much like Simon and Paula.

Howard Stern himself said: "If I do say so myself, I can't imagine anyone else but me replacing (Simon). I mean, I don't know. How else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And who's not afraid to speak their mind?"

Stern's $500 million 5 year contract with Sirius is set to expire at the end of this year. Fox would have to pay him a lot to consider coming aboard American Idol, but Stern said that he would take "a $100 million to judge a karaoke contest? Yeah, I would do that show for $100 million."

So there you have it. Simon Cowell's replacement on American Idol could be Howard Stern. There are many individuals keeping their fingers crossed on this one. After all, ever since Simon announced that he was leaving, people have been scrambling trying to figure out what will happen to the show.

Many feared that ratings will plummet in the future, making Idol nothing more than a quaint memory. This wouldn't be all that bad, except we have gotten a lot of great stars from this show. Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtery, and Kris Allen to name a few.

And who could forget about Pants on the Ground? It's the zany and inspirational characters that try to become something from this show that make it work so well. It's also what makes the show such a hit. People love being involved in the discovery of Hollywood's newest talent, and American Idol is about the only show currently that allows that to happen.

It will be interesting to see if American Idol will remain as popular with the creation of "X Factor." Will people flock to Simon Cowell's familiar face, or will they prefer the in-your-face rhetoric of Howard Stern?
