American Idol Ice Cream?

Review of Take the Cake Flavored Ice Cream

American Idol is probably the most popular reality show on television today. With idols like Kelly Clarkston, Ruben Studdard, and Taylor Hicks, American Idol has become part of pop culture. American Idol has not only penetrated the reality television market, but has endorsed various products such as video games and board games. So what was American Idol's latest big move? Idol's newest market is ice cream and candy.

Yes, I said ice cream. You, as I did, may wonder why American Idol would do such a thing. The answer is simple: popular shows with popular celebrities sell virtually anything. I had only heard of the ice cream a few days ago and was shocked to hear the news. I was under the impression the ice cream would be making its debut on the shelves in grocery stores later in the year, but apparently my impression was wrong.

As I did my grocery shopping this week, I had promised my three year old we would buy some ice cream. I was only going to buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, but I did not get that far down the aisle. I sought out this new American Idol idea and found the ice cream. There are five flavors, which are made by Dreyer's and they all have catchy, Idol themed names. There is Hollywood Cheesecake, Take the Cake, Soulful Sundae Cone, Triple Threat, and Choc'N Roll Caramel.

I have only had the Take the Cake flavored Idol ice cream and I have to say, I was pleasantly impressed. This flavor of ice cream really tastes like a birthday cake. It is a yellow cake flavored ice cream. Then there are swirls of blue frosting, which is more like a goo of yummy blue frosting. Mixed into the ice cream and frosting are confetti colored sprinkles. It is simply the most guilt-free ice cream I have tasted in a long time.

The good thing about American Idol's ice cream is it is not as fattening as other ice creams. It is part of Dreyer's Slow Churned line and only has 1/3 of the fat found in other ice creams. It has 120 calories per serving which makes it even more desirable. The ice cream is gluten-free, kosher, light, and nut-allergen free. Since it is gluten-free it allows me and others, who are sensitive to gluten, to enjoy a tasty treat. I cannot wait to try the other flavors, as I am sure they will be just as good.

oh my that is just so funny to me but American Idol creators and marketers are geniuses and boy do they milk that show's fame. But who can blame them. Great article and now I just MUST get a taste :)

Wow! I'll have to check it out the next time I go food shopping. Ice cream is my favorite dessert and I can't live without it. My brother used to eat a whole gallon of ice cream and he never gained any weight. I can eat a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream by myself. Ice cream is the best dessert ever created. I will try the American Idol ice cream very soon.
