American Idol Isn't the Show Stopper that it Used to Be

American Idol

Kurt Evans
The show called American Idol, isn't the show stopper that it used to be. I used to look forward to watching American Idol because it showed regular people plucked off the street, with real talent.

Seasons Of American Idol

Over the seasons of American Idol, I have got to say that this season has to be the worst. I've seen American Idol, go from a top rated hit show, to what it is now; a show that will soon be loosing their main attraction and my main reason for watching, Simon Cowell.

Paula Abdul And Simon Cowell

I have to admit that American Idol lost a lot of luster after Paula Abdul left the show. There was something to Paula Abdul's and Simon Cowell's constant bickering that made the show seem appealing. Plus, Paula's personality always seemed to be somewhat loopy because of the pain-killers that she claimed to be taking which added humor and fun to the show.

Grasping For Viewers

As American Idol starts to appear like it's grasping for viewers by appearing like a broadway musical show, it starts to lose my interest.

Stereotypical Molds

I don't know if I can speak for the millions of other viewers of American Idol but, I can say that I feel like American Idol is trying to transform itself from what it used to be, into something that feels like it's trying to fit people into stereotypical molds of performing certain eras rather than just letting them be who they are and sing what they want to sing. Now, while this may make the job easier for the judges to be able to see people's different ranges of talent, it does little for the viewer's who just wants to be entertained.

Conformity

When people are forced into a mold, there's a certain level of conformity that takes place. When this happens, some of the passion is lost and this is the one thing that American Idol continues to lose. When people are passionate about music, it shows through but when they're forced into singing types of music that they don't normally sing, all that passion is lost.

American Idol And Passion

When the passion is lost, all of the appeal is gone and that's when things flounder and die. Will American Idol continue to be a force to be reckoned with? Or, will American Idol flounder and die?

It does seem like it's lost some of its luster.

It's funny, I was just thinking last night how American Idol is one of my guiltiest pleasures. It is horrible for the music industry, horrible for television, and probably horrible for the youth of America. However, I just can't stop watching. While I agree that the show has lost a little of its pop this year, I think there are two contestants who will have viable careers and actually have decent voices.

I like to watch the reruns.

I agree! I've stopped watching it the last couple of seasons - although I was hooked on about the first five! I miss those days of Clay, Ruben, Fantastia, Bo, and the others :)

Never did watch it much, Kurt. There is something about using the word "idol" that turns my spirit. But you are certainly right about the falling of the show. I know too many people who used to want always to talk Idol but now seem interested in more important things. I do recall that those first shows seemed more people focused. Anyway, you have a great turn of words. I enjoy your writing very much.

I too, have lost the desire to watch this talent show. I don't like the way it is cast, don't like Ryan as host, don't like the pro entertainment quality on Wed. show.I thought it was a singing talent show, not a floor show. My last year!

Never watched but I see recaps on 'The Soup' and it seems to be withering away...every show must come to an end some day
