American Idol: It's All About the Packaging

Denver American Idol auditions treated viewers to plenty of talent, but the judges were not only looking for singing and passion. Guest judge Victoria Beckham and Kara DioGuardi shared a desire to see the entire package in Denver's, February 2, 2010 American Idol auditions.

There seemed to be an influx of contestants who made it through to Hollywood. Kimberly Kerbow had a bright smile as she sang about buying Simon Rogaine when he needed it. Victoria Beckham and Kara DioGuardi loved Torri Kelly's appearance too. The sixteen year-old sang her rendition of "Gravity".

However, the ultimate audition did not arrive until Casey James, who was formerly in a motorcycle accident, sang with a riveting voice that yielded little personality. Lucky for Casey, Kara and Victoria thought a make-over might just push his personality over the edge and make him alluring to viewers. His blonde hair, previously in a ponytail, was let loose and he unbuttoned his shirt to create a sexy look that definitely wowed Kara and Victoria. This Hollywood newcomer might be the heartthrob of the show if he can work his personality into his performance.

Nicci Nix sang "Something Kinda Ooh" and Simon Cowell loved the lyrics. Haeley Vaughn wore a black and white outfit that complemented her packaging and she was excited to receive her golden ticket. Her rendition of "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood impressed the judges, and her desire to be an African American pop country artist made her unique.

Perhaps, the most powerful package was Danelle Hayes, who
currently supports herself with music gigs ranging from corporate parties to bars. Danelle Hayes was one of my favorites because she was there for the dream and music is definitely going to be part of her career whether she wins or not. The emotional play of her face let viewers know that there was nothing this contestant would rather do. Her rendition of "I'm the Only One" combined with her emotion had judges pushing this talented lady through to Hollywood.

Of course, bikini boy appeared for the final audition, but the judges simply walked out. Something about this package had the judges running.

Sometimes I think they rely too much on looks or gimmick, and the singers don't seem to have the talent to back it up. However, for this episode, I think Haeley and Danelle definitely have a lot of promise and heart, and Casey had a good voice and a heck of a lot of sex appeal. I'm hoping these three won't let us down.
