American Idol: It's Time for Adults to Pull Together and Vote

Teresa Hoyt
After a narrow escape this week, Casey James will need the support of his fans to continue on American Idol. Michael Lynch is in danger too. Even Crystal Bowersox may be slipping in popularity. If you would prefer an American Idol who is not 12, an adult, with the ability to play a musical instrument as well as sing like a pro, it's time to vote for your favorite American Idol like a teenager.

Nothing can match the fervor of a teenage girl in love. For this reason we are in danger of a second year of a bubblegum rock, Disney type kid as the top winner on American Idol. That guy who won American Idol last year (what was his name? Chris something? ) Had the charisma of a box of rocks. But Jr. High students can vote and text to American Idol (on Mom and Dad's dime) with amazing frequency.

Casey is my favorite by far. My second choice is Crystal. Regardless, I am determined not to see another youngster win over real musical talent. I'll admit that after a few dozen votes I'm bored and ready for bed but it's time to rise to the challenge and vote for a real American Idol.

In the end American Idol runner ups often do as well as or better in their musical career than the American Idol winner. Still, it's a shame that the determination of our next American Idol may be in the hands of people too young to drive. Year after year my favorites come in second place at best. Some are voted off American Idol much sooner.

It's too bad that America Idol Voting is determined 100% by phone in votes. If the American Idol judges had any voting ability, maybe talent would count a little more. A little Dancing with the Stars style voting with a mix of American Idol judge's opinion as well as popular vote might help balance out the teenage factor and select an American Idol that appeals to more of the population.

All we can do is try to vote for a real American Idol. It's not very grown up, but you need to dial in or text your votes for your favorite American Idol as if you were a 12 year old girl. If you are not sure you can do that at least take away the phone privileges of your teenager during American Idol voting. Give the grownups a fighting chance.
