American Idol: Jason Castro Performs "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
Jason Castro Pulls Out All the Stops and a Ukulele
A unique young man indeed, Jason C. seems like he may be easily led down the wrong path in Hollywood. Maybe it's the goofy sideways grin that makes him seem slightly gullible.
Tonight Jason got back to the status he had when he covered "Hallelujah" a few weeks ago.
American Idol is all about your fan base and how you treat them. Jason has a huge Internet fan base and this may be his biggest advantage in the competition. Castro's biggest threat for a Top 4 finish at this point is Carly Smithson (with David Cook and David Archuleta far in the lead).
Here is how the judging went down:
Randy Jackson - "Dude, Jason Castro is back in the hunt! That was the hottest so far tonight. That was blazing, molten hot!"
Paula Abdul - "I was telling Simon that you have the most definitive sound, and the guitar... it was the perfect song, and I love that version of the song."
Simon Cowell - "this is that Internet version by Israel somebody isn't it... 1st time I heard it I wasn't sure... 2nd time, loved it... 3rd time, fantastic!"
Jason Castro gave a really great performance tonight and easily solidified his place in the Top 7.
Here is my American Idol Top 5 and the order they will leave (I think!)
5. Carly Smithson (this will be close)
4. Jason Castro
3. Michael Johns
2. David Archuleta
Your next American Idol is - David Cook

Post a CommentI absolutely love jason castro!
Yeah Jason has a unique style, but I agree about the impressionable quality--Hollywood could corrupt him if he isn't careful.
I love Jason Castro! He is the only genuine artist out of all of them. Every week, he gets criticized for his song choices, his hair, what have you...and every week he just keeps keeping on, doing what feels right to him. He has a beautiful voice and is gifted with other instruments as well. He is the real thing. I hope he does NOT win, because then he'll have to play one of the craptastic songs that Idol's contract binds him to. I can't see him walking away with nothing, though. Jason has a future in music. I can't wait to hear HIS music. I will be buying it!
"When you can perform 'Hallelujah' like Jason did, you don't need to be the frontman of a band"
I totally agree with this comment. Not everyone has to come out, scream out some notes, do a million riffs in their songs in order to "front a band"
I like that Jason is a "softer" singer. His voice is soothing to the ear and he just has a way about him that you can't help but like.
Norah Jones, Michael Buble and others don't have powerful vocals but it's in how they present their music. I would definitely buy an album of Jason Castro. He's melodic! He knows exactly what he's doing!!
When you can perform 'Hallelujah' like Jason did, you don't need to be the frontman of a band. You need to play songs and enjoy yourself. And that's exactly what he does. He's got everything (and a whole lot more) that it takes to become an amazing singer-songwriter and move people with his voice. Looks, sound, charisma.... what more could you want? I really hope he makes it to the final. Nice article.
Simon really cracks me up with his comments!
David Cook is way overrated, and his performance last night shows that. He tried way too hard and he fell way short. His was one of the worst performances of the night! He might make it into the Top 5, but he will NOT win!
Excellent job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, David Cook is very very likely to win!
