American Idol: Jason Castro Performs Mariah Carey's I Want to Cry
The American Idol Top 7 Are Mentored by Mariah Carey
Jason Castro closed the show tonight with his original version of "I Want To Cry". It seemed that Jason's carefree easy attitude pulled Ms. Carey in just as it does most females. Castro has a true musicians personality, and please don't take it as a slam when I say he reminds me of every bass player that I have ever met.
Jason wears a goofy sideways grin every where he goes. You just can't help but like him. That does not make him the winner of American Idol, but it sure goes a long way.
Tonight Jason Castro chose to perform without his usual guitar. He arranged a small acoustic group of musicians and tried his best to remain serious throughout the song. Jason did a great job tonight. He gets pitch-y, but that is just Jason. He will grow out of it with confidence. I really liked his arrangement of the song, and the emotion that he had to show while he sang.
The judging went down like this:
Randy Jackson - "I felt like I was at a weird beach luau... I didn't get it."
Paula Abdul - "I am so proud of you... you have gotten into a groove."
Simon Cowell - "I agree with Paula... not the best vocal, but it was good. The guys definitely won the night!"
Simon is right about that. I don't think that the women stand a chance in getting into the Top 3, but Jason is the problem child. I truly hope that his fan base carries him through, as his vocals tend to be inconsistent.
Good luck, and go vote!

five stars for the great work
If you're asking if he has a big enough fan base to carry him through, the answer is YES
The DreadHeads and Castronauts combined easily outnumber the other fanbases.
You are, of course, correct dh! I apologize for the mistaken song name in the title. Sorry to Mariah Carey and Jason Castro, the song is called "I Don't Wanna Cry"
