American Idol Judge Panel Now Without Kara DioGuardi?

Robert Dougherty
American Idol judge positions used to be secure. But the American Idol judge lineup is now down to one, with Kara DioGuardi rumored to be fired. Kara DioGuardi was merely the first new American Idol judge two years ago, when she replaced Paula Abdul. Of course, now there is a new search going on to find Simon Cowell's replacement, which has already attracted some famous names. But, if they don't fill Simon's chair, there are other American Idol judge spots to take now, with DioGuardi following Ellen DeGeneres out the door.

The two female judges are now both gone within the span of a day, according to reports. However, DeGeneres resigned her position yesterday, whereas Kara DioGuardi was fired, according to TMZ.

The American Idol judge search has already gone through more twists and turns than the search for an actual Idol. But it will end on Monday, once the new panel is unveiled to the TCA press tour. Yet DioGuardi will not be among them, if TMZ is correct.

DioGuardi had to live in Paula Abdul's shadow for two years, and was met with mixed approval at best from fans. Those same fans were mixed on DeGeneres as well, so the last two days have likely been happy ones for some followers. With both females gone, it leaves Randy Jackson as the only constant left for the panel.

The new American Idol judge lineup will now apparently go for big names. Kara DioGuardi was picked for being a songwriter and producer, but Idol was her debut in front of the camera. But, like they did with DeGeneres, they will likely pick on-camera stars - only this time, with singing experience.

The hottest American Idol judge rumors have Jennifer Lopez coming on board to fill the female quota. But the TMZ report on DioGuardi's firing also said Steven Tyler would likely be Cowell's replacement. This would return the panel to three judges, after many complaints about the four-judge format last season.

With Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres now all gone, the show is in greater upheaval than ever before. They have a lot to fix, given the revolving door of judges and the largely panned group of singers from last season. If these latest reports are true, they seem to think they can fix the show with star power on the judges panel.

Of course, Lopez and Tyler used to be too big for gigs like this, so whether they can help the American Idol judge problem is uncertain. But first, they have to be offered the job officially, and with DioGuardi apparently gone, it seems one less obstacle has been removed.

I guess the powers that be wanted to really change things up this year in order to create more interest and drama for the new season. I, for one, was sad to hear that they let Kara go. I thought she made an excellent judge because of her musical background, as well as her caring personality toward the kids on the show. I just hope the producers know what they're doing. They're messing with success.

Randy could just phone in his regular two or three comments dog!! When has he ever had anything original to say. He just tries (very hard) to be hip - but he looks stupid. The middle-aged twit.

Karla was pathetic. Aways talking about "being true to yourself" she should turn that around because her identity changed every week.

Simon, although not kind, was at least realistic in most instances. He showed a vast knowledge of the business, but very little of human psychology.

It sounds like they're going to totally revamp the show with all new judges (not sure if Randy is staying or the next to be fired). I do wonder if that will put the last nail in the coffin or bring in high ratings. Only time will tell! Great article!
