American Idol Judges Shake Up - J-Lo and Steven Tyler In?

3 Judges Down, Who Will Join Randy Behind American Idol Judges' Table

Wendy Dawn
We are talking about a major change among American Idol judges and, if this trick doesn't work it could forecast the downfall of American Idol, an icon of American television.

Ellen DeGeneres leaves American Idol

You've probably heard by now that Ellen DeGeneres stepped down from her position on the show. According to DeGeneres she felt the show was not a good fit for her personality. She didn't enjoy being critical and watching people's lives and dreams destroyed when they went down in flames on American Idol.

But what about Simon Cowell's spot on judges' row?

We haven't gotten beyond the last American Idol judge drama, the fact that Simon Cowell will no longer be appearing in his iconic role as American Idol's bad guy, unafraid to give even the most timid contestants a tongue lashing.

We don't yet know who will fill that role or do we? It's hard to say with the musical chairs going on at American Idol right now.

Kara DioGuardi fired!

In a move that has been as long in coming as Kara DioGuardi has occupied a judges' seat American Idol fired the alleged music mogul.

She didn't bring anything to the show from day one. I think they gave her a prolonged chance, given she had a season out from under the shadow of Paula Abdul, and still she brought nothing to the table.

With Paula gone there was no one to dote over contestants, dance, and tear-up when they performed a particularly, or moderately, moving piece.

Kara was as dry as milk toast and I'm glad she is gone. Interesting, she was given the ax while Ellen DeGeneres walked away to focus on her day job.

Idol talk of J-Lo and Steven Tyler

Current idol chatter has the field of would-be judge replacements down to two: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

J-Lo was the first of the two potential future American Idol judges, but Idol fans are not loving the idea of Jennifer Lopez behind the judges' table. I don't know why not. She has a well rounded career, so maybe, just maybe she will be the one to be able to spot future star power.

It is also possible that J-Lo will bring some personality, other than Randy Dawg's, to the judge's seat. She can be brilliant and touching, and I feel sure that she can contribute more than Kara DioGuardi did during her two year stint as a judge. (Did I mention I hated every minute of it?)

What of Steven Tyler on American Idol?

One thing is for sure, American Idol has to place at least one judge who knows, really knows music and success if they ever hope to fill the omnipotent Simon Cowell's seat. Steven Tyler may be Idol's best bet.

While Steven Tyler may be the best replacement for DioGuardi, et al, the Aeorosmith singer is remaining tight lipped. He will neither confirm or deny reports that he has been offered a position on American Idol by FOX.

As for FOX, why should they confirm or deny anything. The rumors keep American Idol chatter in the forefront of entertainment news and social media. Their non-committal stance is the best thing they can do to keep American Idol buzzing.

With three of the four judges seats now empty FOX will have to think long and hard about who to put in the judges' seats beside Randy.

Give the American Idol show a break with the judges. Every shows has its time to shine and certainly American Idol had their time. Paula, Simon and Randy were absolutely the best and really did Idol much good. As for replacements, don't think we can deal with any more Kara's or Ellen's for judges. It maybe Idol's time to throw in the towel. What do you think?

With all due respect to both Lopez and Tyler, neither are talent scouts and without one of those, they cannot help find the type of contestants that have what it takes to stand out in a crowd of wannabies. Nor can they help these contestants learn what it is that an audience is looking for in a performance - which is what Ellen brought to the show. This is not going to be good and I am seriously thinking of not bothering to watch the next season.

    I could live with that

MMMMM not sure how to comment on this one, I don't watch the show. But according to the news people are upset because Ellen is leaving.

I didn't care for Kara either and Ellen? Well, she didn't make it worse than it was. I think Less is Best and perhaps Idol should consider going back to 3 judges not 4. cheers ;0

These changes can only be for the best.

  • Jenny Heart8/1/2010

The right judges can bring out the best in the contestants.
