American Idol Judges Need to Have Their Ears Cleaned

Judges Admit It's About Personality Not Singing

Jessica Schneider
I really think the American Idol judges need to have the wax cleaned out of their ears.

They made it clear what they were looking for in selecting their final singers for their top 12, or should I say 13. (Yes, that's right-they were trying to pull one over on us by making us think Anoop Desai did not make it in, but actually, he's lucky 13).

In light of my last AI post, I was pretty confident that Jasmine Murray and Megan Corkrey would make it through, since the judges have been pushing them so heavily. I wouldn't have given either of them a second chance, let alone put them through.

Jasmine sung "Reflection" by Christina Aguilera and once again it was a total snooze fest, yet the judges praised it. I thought her performance was flat, dull, generic and uninspiring. It reminded me of a mediocre beauty pageant performance. Yet, she is their little darling.

Megan's performance of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" was quite awful. She's just not a good singer-period. I remember how Katharine McPhee killed that song in Season 5. Meagan didn't even come close, and yet the judges praised her. My husband and I were left scratching our heads why this was.

Ok, she's pretty (though my husband admits her tattoos are gross yet I can see that being a matter of taste) and I'll admit she has a interesting "look" to her in the sense of a hippyish, smoke filled bar kind of way, but not only is her voice not particularly good, it's actually really bad. Her notes are flat and all over the place.

Though the most memorable part of the night is not their decision to throw Anoop in at the last second-making him lucky 13, it's poor, dear Tatiana's reaction to her rejection. Believe it or not, despite her annoying quirks, I was actually rooting for her, in a way. Oh Lord, the girl began to sob and even begged (on her knees no less) in front of the judges in her last attempt at...something. You kind of have to hand it to her--she gets people to feel for her, or maybe we're just disguising our "sympathy" within our roaring bursts of laughter.

I'll admit she's a bit melodramatic (to put it mildly) but she has a decent voice-much better than Jasmine or Megan at least. I would have put her through over those two, and if personality is what they're really after, who has it more than Tatiana? Granted, she made a mistake by singing the same dull Whitney Houston song twice, though with how the night was going, it is unlikely that the judges would have chosen her anyway, no matter how well she performed. They clearly had their picks in mind before the singing even began.

The Wild Card show proved that American Idol is not about having the best voice, but a personality they think is "marketable." Whatever. They cut the girl with the best voice, (Kristen McNamara) and for all their talk about her lack of "image" one has to wonder why she didn't flaunt her obvious "assets" like in these photos. Nothing sells like big boobies, right boys? Check them out for yourselves. Oy!
