American Idol Lennon-McCartney Week Performances

Crystal Bowersox's "Come Together" and Casey James' "Jealous Guy" Stand Out

It was Lennon-McCartney Week on American Idol and the remaining nine performers brought their individuality and energy into their performances of some of the most recognizable and well-liked songs in history. That being said, not all of the remaining performers were able to rise to the occasion and set themselves apart from the rest of the pack. While some of the performances were entirely forgettable, none of them were completely awful either.

The standouts of the night on American Idol were Casey James rendition of "Jealous Guy", Crystal Bowersox with her take on "Come Together, Katie Stevens singing "Let It Be", and Michael Lynche's performance of "Eleanor Rigby". Lee DeWyze had good energy and confidence in his performance of "Hey Jude", but the whole bagpipe thing didn't really work in my opinion and I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to make me laugh, which it did.

Andrew Garcia didn't earn any clout with the judges with his forgettable take on "Can't Buy Me Love". American Idol is about standing out-it's a competition. Garcia's performance came across as a flat cover without much substance. I'm thinking he is going to be packing his bags soon, he simply isn't going to rise above his competitors and doesn't have the depth or talent to make it to the top.

Aaron Kelly's performance of "The Long and Winding Road" didn't really work either. Simon was right when he described Kelly's performance as boring. It wasn't the worst performance in American Idol history by any stretch of the imagination, it just didn't engage the audience or show us anything new.

Siobhan Magnus performed a disappointing rendition of "Across the Universe". This is one of my favorite songs and somehow she evoked the urge to change the channel. While Magnus wasn't off key or otherwise butchering the song, it wasn't a great performance and I don't think she did the song justice at all.

Tim Urban performed "All My Loving" and unfortunately for him, he had to follow Crystal Bowersox's performance. His performance had good energy and he looked the part as he strummed his guitar and sang, but it was a definite let down after Bowersox's "Come Together". I wouldn't have wanted to take to the American Idol stage after Bowersox either.

Tonight on American Idol's elimination show, viewers will find out which contestants will move forward into the top eight. The show will feature performances by Rihanna, former Idol contestant David Archuletta, and Jason Derulo.

  • Crystal Bowersox's brought the house down with The Beatle's "Come Together"
  • Aaron Kelly's "Long and Winding Road" was boring and easily forgotten.
  • Casey James turned in a rock solid performance with "Jealous Guy".
