After four long hours of mostly mediocre live performances, harsh criticisms from Simon Cowell and more than 24 million viewer votes, the results are finally in. We now know the first four contestants whose American Idol dreams were crushed tonight. Internet rumors have been buzzing this week that the two female contestants who could possibly being going home tonight were Haeley Vaughn and Ashley Rodriguez. Elimination rumors were also swirling around new addition Tim Urban and Joe Munoz.
We now know the Internet gossip sites got it half right tonight. As rumored, Ashley Rodriguez was eliminated Thursday. However, Haeley Vaughn who performed a very disconnected version of I Wanna Hold Your Hand, received enough votes to stay in the competition. Instead, Janell Wheeler was sent home.
Unfortunately for Joe Munoz the rumors were true, and we said good bye to him Thursday. But, replacement finalist Tim Urban, a virtual unknown until last night, is still in the competition. Tim's weak performance of Apologize and his tears while receiving feedback from the judges have carried him to the next round. Tyler Grady, the Jim Morrison look alike and 70s rock star, was eliminated.
Allison Ireheta, a Season 8 finalist, performed her new single Scars. With a new look of purple and red hair and black laced gloves, Allison rocked the stage with confidence.
Kris Allen also returned to the Idol stage to perform Let it Be with a video montage of his recent trip to Haiti. Kris's version of the song is available on iTunes and 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the Haitian relief effort. Credit card donations to the relief effort can be made at www.americanidol.com. Viewers can also make a $10 donation by texting the word IDOL to 20222 and reply "yes" to the return message. A new Idol Gives Back will air live on April 21.
Tune in next Tuesday to watch the live performances of the girls and on Wednesday to watch the guys perform live. And, another results show is coming up next Thursday.
