Tonight was rock night on American Idol and for the first time in Idol history, the contestants performed duets as part of the competition. Slash, of Velvet Revolver and formerly Guns 'N Roses, was the guest mentor and the contestants practiced with Slash at the famous Roxy Club in Los Angeles. Adam Lambert was the first to rock the stage with a Whole Lot of Love by Led Zeppelin. Randy said, "You are a rock star tonight. You and Slash could make a record together." Kara called him a rock god and Paula called his performance "A whole lot of perfect." Simon said, "This was one of my favorite performances and the problem is no one will be able to top this one."

Allison Ireheta was up next with a bluesy rendition of Janis Joplin's Cry Baby and the judges were unanimous about her song choice. Randy said, "You can sing your face off, but I didn't like your song choice." Kara thought that Janis Joplin was the right choice, but also didn't like the song. Paula called it a fearless performance. Simon said, "I like your confidence. I thought it was a terrific vocal, but I wouldn't have chosen that song."

Kris Allen and Dan Gokey performed the first duet of the night singing Renegade by Styx. Randy liked the harmony, but thought the individual performances were just okay and pitchy. Kara said, "These guys are not renegades. They are the guys that help a little old woman across the street." Paula thought it was a powerful and compelling performance. Simon said, "Danny was better than Kris."

After the break, Kris Allen performed the Beatles Come Together accompanying himself on guitar. Randy liked the performance, but wasn't blown away. However, he loved the guitar. Kara said it was not a great performance and it looked like he was trying too hard. Paula liked his artistic delivery, but wants to see a little more energy. Simon said, "I didn't like it. It was like eating ice for lunch. It leaves you with nothing to remember."

Danny Gokey, the only remaining contestant that has never been in the bottom three, performed an awkward version of Aerosmith's Dream On. Randy said it was just all right. Kara thought Danny took the swagger and edge too far, but commended him for taking a chance. Paula said it wasn't the right song, but admired him for going for it. Simon said, "That last note was like a horror movie. It was like a scene from Friday the 13th. But, I still think you are going to be safe.

Allison and Adam closed out the show with an unbelievable rock and roll duet of Foghat's Slow Ride. Randy said, "You guys are two seasoned rock stars. That was the bomb." Kara said, "The rock god and the rock goddess." Paula said, "You guys are the perfect blend and were perfectly in sync." Simon said, "You win the battle of the duets. Adam, you may have given this one (Allison) a chance to stay in this competition."

Tune in tomorrow night at 9:00 PM EST on FOX for the live results show when one contestant will sing their last song on the American Idol stage.
