American Idol: Michael Sarver Ready to Shine

The judges opted to not use their one save for Michael Sarver, the Jasper native and former oil field roughneck. While I can't say I was shocked that Michael got the ouster, I would have liked to see him come into his own on the show. He faced stiff competition from Matt Giraud who hasn't made a misstep yet. His song choices, arrangements and performances have been on point. I know he ended up in the bottom three but that had to have been a fluke. While, I think Megan Joy is a unique performer, I was shocked that she didn't end up in the bottom three. Just goes to show that if you care then cast your vote. Especially since the judges aren't playing all fast and loose with that Judge's save. In fact, I would wager that the judge's save doesn't come out until at least the final four or five.

Michael Sarver is already a part the Idol tour but rather than rest on his laurels, he is quoted in an article in the Honolulu Advertiser, as saying "I've always wanted to do this music thing. I plan to hit it hard." There are those of us who still have some question as to who Michael Sarver is genre wise. It is easy with Sarver being from Jasper, Texas to write him off as a country boy and try to pigeon hole him as a country artist. However, if you saw his stint on Idol you know he's definitely got a soulful vibe. In an effort to solidify his choice of genre, Sarver shared in the same article that he's been writing songs since he was about 4 years old. He indicated that there is not a country ditty among the 890 or so he's written. He describes the vibe as definitely R&B, pop and soul.

Michael has mentioned that he works in one of the fifth most dangerous professions in the world. I guess when you've faced the angry sea from the platform of an oil rig; it sort of puts Simon Cowell in perspective. Anyone who watched the show knows he's got the chops. The American Idol Tour is definitely going to be his time to shine.
